A family of four was awakened early Tuesday morning to the smell of smoke and discovered that their double wide mobile home was on fire. The family was able to escape safely, but the home was totally destroyed by the fire.
At approximately 2:30 a.m., Tuesday morning, the Kern County Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire in the 26000 block of Highline Rd. in Stallion Springs, CA. The fire was first spotted and reported by the Tehachapi Corrections Facility. Units from Stallion Springs, Bear Valley, Tehachapi and Keene responded. Upon arrival, crews found a double wide mobile home about 67% involved in fire. Crews made a quick attack on the fire while determining that there were no occupants inside the structure. The fire was controlled quickly, with some extensive mop up. A nearby structure and several vehicles were threatened, but were saved undamaged.
Residents of the mobile home, a father, mother and two boys, aged 2 & 3, said they were awakened by the smell of smoke and were able to make their escape, but lost everything in the fire. There were no injuries. There were no smoke detectors in the residence.
There is no loss estimate at this time and the cause is under investigation.
