Mountain Football unveils new team; Intrasquad scrimmage held at Coy Burnett Field

The Warriors sounded in the season last Saturday morning at Coy Burnett Field, providing an early morning sneak-peek for the local community on the 2014 version of Mountain Football.

Tehachapi's varsity squad will feature 60 athletes overall, with 28 seniors, 28 juniors and four sophomores.

Senior athletes this season include #4 PJ Simunovich, #11 Mikal Moore, #13 Noah Deaville, #15 Trevor Newton, #16 Kenny Sharp, #17 Anton Sorlin, #20 Chris Rhodes, #22 Chris Kirk, #26 Nick Steele, #27 Connor Bethany, #28 Juan Cabrera, #29 Matthew Crane, #31 Abraham Katona, #32 Willy Urciel, #35 Michael Bailey, #36 Ethan Averett, #41 Hayden Schaffer, #44 Jerry Castaneda, #54 Sam Hanley, #55 Ben Farinas, #60 Trey Abarquez, #64 Billy Schuster, #66 Conner O'Neal, #67 Rocky Radcliff, #72 Phillip Baquerizo, #76 Luke Potter, #77 Oscar Bejar and #85 Xavier Moore.

Juniors for the Warriors consist of #1 Nic Ledesma, #2 Jake Walters, #3 Angel Garcia, #5 Thomas Blewett, #6 Noah Whitlach, #7 Lars Olofson, #8 Nathan Collier, #9 Antwon Thomas, #12 Chris Llamas, #18 Garrett Billings, #23 Daniel Wight, #24 Colten Eaton, #25 Cody Johnson, #37 Evan Sheehan, #42 Caleb Huebner, #45 Jacob Gonzales, #50 Erik Smith, #51 Ryan Poulson, #52 Jordan Haubruge, #53 Kris Breedlove, #56 Gabe Dodge, #57 Jonathan Hurtado, #65 Ryan Hanzel, #70 Wyatt Smith, #71 Joshua Avalos, #74 Kyle Sasser, #78 Jacob Onufrak and #81 Andrew Lindsey.

Coming up for their sophomore season on the varsity squad are #10 Troy Noda, #21 Keyron Scott, #30 Anthony Powell and #34 Tanner Herman.

Coaching Mountain Football this year in his 33rd season is Steve Denman and assistant coaches are Bill Carll, Dennis Ruggles, Patrick Snyder, Butch Barthel and Terry Dill.

Support staff for the Warriors this year include Roger Davis, Gary Warner, Vince Elizondo, Michael Duffy, Tom Shea and Rick, DJ and Michael Rickheim. Ed Grimes will once again be the 'Voice of the Warriors' in the press box and Michael Grimes and Al Mainord will run the scoreboard at home games.

Coaching the Jayvee Braves this season will be Ryan Grimes along with assistants Jason Grimes, Matt Schneider, Jason Hail, Jimmy Lopez and Cody Rogers. Bruce Schkade will head up the Freshman Indians, assisted by Doug DeGeer and Ben Farinas.

A "Meet the Warrior" banquet will be held this Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the THS cafeteria. The public is invited to attend to meet the new-look Warriors, Braves and Indians.

All three levels of THS football will be in action again this Friday at home against South-Bakersfield and Taft in a non-scoring tri-scrimmage. The freshman and jayvee squads will play on a split field at 5 p.m. and the varsity teams will begin at 7 p.m.
