Moving onto semifinals
The Lady Warriors have moved one step closer to one of their ultimate goals of the year after an impressive 25-8, 25-10, 25-10 sweep over Mt. Whitney last Thursday night at home.
Tehachapi (31-3), the bracket's No. 2 seed, made quick work of No. 7 seed Mt. Whitney in the first set, behind strong backcourt play by Samantha Wallace and booming putaways by Destiny Julye.
Wallace closed the match with a team leading five digs and 32 assists, while Julye had 14 kills, two aces and two digs.
The Lady Warriors closed out the second set in quick fashion with a 9-1 and 10-3 scoring run. They then went into cruise control in the third set to end the Pioneer's season.
Other leaders in the victory included Elayna Cramer with eight kills, three digs and two aces, Kendall Kapitzke with four aces and four digs, Brooklynn Cheney with four blocks and Kelsey Schoenberg with four digs.
Also contributing were Miranda Wert and Katie Neufeld, who both had two digs.
Mountain Volleyball will play No. 3 Independence this Tuesday night in the THS gym, starting at 6:30 p.m. The Falcons reached the semifinals with a 25-19, 25-14, 25-12 win over No. 6 Tulare Union last Thursday night.
On the other side of the CIF Division II bracket, No. 1 El Diamante-Visalia defeated No. 9 Reedley, 25-17, 25-20, 25-14 and No. 5 Exeter upset No. 4 Lemoore, 25-22, 25-16, 25-20.
El Diamante and Exeter will play this Tuesday for the right to play in the CIF championship this Thursday night against either Tehachapi or Independence.
The CIF State playoffs are set to begin next week. Seeding and bracket information will be available on cifstate.org this weekend.
