Mountain Soccer saved their most impressive performance of the season for the Liberty Tournament championship game, running away with the American Division title over Garces in a blowout 9-0 victory.
Tehachapi (8-1) was running on all cylinders offensively, with Jose Barajas recording a three goal hat trick and David Veszpeller also adding two goals and two assists.

Other scorers included Cameron Gamble, Alex Benitez, Tyler Todd and Kevin Saldana, while Victor Rodriguez had two assists and Benitez and Barajas with assists.

“Our guys put it all together against Garces,” said head coach Roger Rijfkogel. “The kids never let up and kept their intensity throughout the match. They played very well.”

Overall in the tournament, Zach Satton was brilliant at goalkeeper with four shutouts, recording 17 saves overall. Barajas led the team in the tournament with eight goals, with Tehachapi outscoring the opposition 18-0 overall as a team.

The Warriors continued their winning ways last Thursday with a 3-1 victory over Burroughs, with Barajas and Benitez both recording a goal and assist and Lucas Rowe scoring a goal.
Satton had six saves at goalie, giving up only one Burros score in the second half.

“It’s been a good start for us so far and we’re having success against some solid competition in tournament play,” added Rijfkogel. “We have more work to do, though. We want to finish strong before the holidays.”

Tehachapi participated in the Wasco Tournament and against Rosamond this past Monday. Those results will be featured next week.
