The Tehachapi Mountain Rodeo Association celebrated a wonderful 2013 Junior Rodeo season with a finals rodeo on Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Tehachapi Event Center and Rodeo Grounds.

The stands were filled with enthusiastic family and friends who cheered on the pee wees (ages 6 and under) in dummy roping, stick horse racing and stick horse barrel racing. Our young contestants also hopped onto some wooly four-legged friends for our ever-popular mutton busting.

The buckaroos (ages 7-11), juniors (ages 12-15) and seniors (ages 16-20) competed in exciting events such as barrel racing, flags, pole bending, breakaway and team roping, steer stopping, goat and calf tying, and chute dogging. There was lots of bucking action in calf riding for our buckaroos and steer riding for all juniors plus senior girls

The evening culminated with a dinner and awards program where beautiful Bob Berg western buckles were awarded to the "All-Around" in each event of our four age divisions. In the pee wee division top honors went to Gavin Eaton, cowgirl Keeley Osbrink who won the buckaroo division, Julie Donovan who captured the top honors in the junior division and Lindsay Krueger who happily accepted her buckle in the senior division.

Special thanks to all the volunteers who gave countless hours to help make this 2013 Junior Rodeo season such a success. TMRA also wishes to thank all the parents of our contestants for their wonderful show of sportsmanship throughout our season.

The Tehachapi Mountain Rodeo Association believes that junior rodeos build a strong foundation of character, discipline and self esteem in our youth. Our association was founded as a youth rodeo and it is with great pride that we have returned to our roots with the desire to educate our youth on the "Western Way of Life". We feel that bringing our western heritage to these young people will form strong family bonds, as well as help to set the stage for tomorrow's rodeo athletes to carry on this rich western tradition.
