Lady Warriors clinch berth in state playoffs

The Lady Warriors lost in the CIF Central Section Division III semifinals to Hanford West 53-33 last week, but will continue their season in the state playoffs.
State brackets were announced late Sunday and No. 12 Tehachapi (23-6) will play at No. 5 Reseda (21-5) this Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Regents won the Los Angeles City CIF section championship this past Saturday with a 69-65 win over Eagle Rock.
The Lady Warriors earned a trip to the state playoffs with wins over San Joaquin Memorial 59-56 and Shafter 43-33 in early central section playoff action. The CIF state committee took notice, awarding the Lady Warriors one of the state at-large bids in Division III.
In the Warriors’ last contest against Hanford West, freshman point guard Dani Peacon led the team in scoring with 12 points and added four steals and three assists. Rheanna Cowee also had a strong game with nine points and 16 rebounds, while Danielle Simpson had six points and four rebounds. Other leaders included Alyssa Garcia adding four points, four assists and three steals and Briana Gutierrez scoring a basket.
If Mountain Basketball defeats Reseda, they will play the winner of No. 4 Gahr (22-9) and No. 13 Cathedral Catholic (18-10) in the second round this Saturday, March 9.
Other central section teams making the Division III state playoffs include No. 7 Hanford West (27-6), No. 9 Selma (30-2) and No. 14 Sierra-Tollhouse (22-9). Selma and Sierra will join Tehachapi with road contests in the CIF first round against no.8 Calabasas (20-9) and No. 3 Agoura (21-11), respectively. Central Section CIF Division III champion Hanford West will host No. 10 Santa Barbara (24-8).
