Tehachapi advances in boys soccer playoffs; at No. 2 Fresno-Roosevelt today
After rolling over No. 10 Independence 3-1 in the first round of the Central Section Division III playoffs on Wednesday, No. 7 Tehachapi looks to carry its momentum into its varsity boys soccer quarterfinal at North Yosemite League champ No. 2 Fresno-Roosevelt today.
The Warriors (19-6-1) got two goals from junior David Veszpeller and one from senior Jose Barajas, who added to his central section lead in goals scored with 37 this season.
Tehachapi’s defense held the Falcons to just a single goal in the first half and led 2-1 going into the break.
From their the defense took over and led by junior goalkeeper Zach Statton, who made five saves, held Independence scoreless the rest of the way.
Meanwhile, Roosevelt (18-1-3) who has not lost a game since Dec. 18 shut out No. 15 Yosemite-Oakhurst 3-0 at home in its first round playoff game on Feb. 13.
The Rough Riders have an explosive offense, having outscored their opponents 57-14 this season.
