Freddy Benitez scored four goals to help lift the Tehachapi (9-8; 5-5 SEYL) to a 4-3 victory over North last Thursday afternoon at Coy Burnett Field.
Benitez helped the Warriors to a 1-0 halftime lead with a goal off an Abraham Katona assist. Benitez scored three more goals in the second period, with one of the goals an assist from Tyler Todd.
Zach Satton was credited with six saves in the victory.
Earlier in the week, Alex Benitez scored a goal off an assist from Dan Larz, but the early lead was not enough to hold off Highland in a 4-1 defeat. Satton had seven saves in the loss.
In junior varsity action, the Braves (7-12-1; 3-7 SEYL) closed their year with a 3-1 loss to Highland and a 2-0 win over North.
Austin Montgomery scored Tehachapi’s goal against the Scots with a turn-and-shoot opportunity and Leo Cano and Rafael Moreno connected with goals in the shutout win over North.
Cano was on the back post and settled a floating ball off his chest for the tap-in first goal, and then later assisted on Moreno’s goal on a set play. After being fouled 35 yards from the goal, Cano sent a floating shot to the middle-far post, which was headed by Moreno over the keeper’s outstretched arms for the 2-0 lead.
Trent Botbyl was credited with eight saves against Highland and eight saves in the shutout win over North.
