Allow me to “get my patriot on” for a second...

About a month ago, I visited a local store and asked for a small U.S. flag - the kind you can place on your office desk. One of the clerks pointed to a group of crumpled up, sun-faded miniature flags sitting in a display can. I asked the clerk if they had anything newer looking - they didn’t, end of story.

After a couple more trips around town and no luck, I was eventually directed to a local 99 cent store. I asked the clerk inside and they pointed me to a biker bandanna made out of the stars and stripes.

Sorry, I’ll save that style for my bud Richard of the Bako band American Smogg - rock on homie.

Kind of sad when you think about it. Had I wanted to buy a T-shirt with the flag of another country, I could cruise down to the mall and pick one up pretty easily.

All I wanted was to fly a little U.S. patriotism - but as luck would have it, it had gone missing.

Which brings us to our latest issue - “For The Troops!”

Every generation can list a war in their history: Civil, WWI & WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Persian Gulf, Afghanistan, Iraq, among others. And those who’ve taken up the task of defending our rights on a daily basis under extreme circumstances must be remembered for their acts of courage.

And not just those soldiers we lost on the battlefield, I’m talking about the living and those still fighting the good fight!

Bakotopia is trying to do its part to show some love for our country and our Bako soldiers.

We have stories, photos, dedications, helping out vets in need, and in true Bakotopia style - a hot photo shoot courtesy of Studio 13 with a nod to war pin-ups of yesteryear, and yes … more!

So start reading, and help boost our economy by supporting our Bakotopia advertisers who keep us free.

I'm not much into flags or flag waving.  In fact, I get sort of pissed when I see so much so-called "patriotism" like vomit plastered all over everything.

In 2004 I decided to be patriotic in my own little quiet way.  I gave the Oregon Disabled Vets  of Foreign Wars Group access to my credit card, and they have been debiting $20 per month for their cause ever since.  This is real patriotism as far as I'm concerned.

I also hate those little yucky yellow ribbons everybody seems to display everywhere.

Interesting point! Thanks for sharing!

That's what's beautiful about the US - you can do your part anyway you'd like - quiet, loudly, as long as its sincere...

Cheers!
