Here to save you from the blahs....

It's the

Newsletter...2008 Rockin Roots edition!

One of my pet peeves are whiney people...

"There's nothing to do, its boring, whine, whine, whine..."

You know 'em. In fact, you may possess that very quality. NO!

Well, we're about to exorcise the demons of boredom with the power of Bakotopia!

In this issue, not only do we feature the 2008 Rockin' Roots Festival, known to bring more unusual groups of people peacefully together in Bako than any other yearly show, but we have the Millionaires - sisters and friends who have become the internet's latest teen obsession. You also get to meet some of our local Bakotopialand bands before they hit the stage on May 31.

Since we're on the topic of girls and music - we have the scoop on Stockdale Music's Rock Camp For Girls. Plus! A newcomer to the pages of Bakotopia - Gamestor Gil will be introducing the latest in video gaming glory.

Bako theater is also about to inhale a cloud of “Reefer Madness - The Musical,” at The Empty Space. I'm dizzy already...

If all that still isn't enough, did we happen to mention that Bakotopia.com just won a 2007 Kern Press Club Award with the help of some very talented local peeps?

I don't know about you, but I can't contain myself any longer. Please support our advertisers who keep Bakotopia magazine free for you, and help spread the word!

Special thanks for the great response to our “Feel My Art” issue. We promise we'll do it again!

Have fun at Rockin' Roots, and stop by stage five at, let's say... 5 p.m.? Ha ha...

Art is art is art...is art!

It's the

Newsletter...Feel my art edition...

Back in January, Matt contacted me about interning here at Bakotopia.  I was worried at first because I know what the term “intern” usually means, but since Matt isn’t a politician and I’m not a congressional page, I figured things would be fine. It has definitely been a fun and interesting experience.  I’ve been writing articles for this since it’s drunken conception night and have received a ton of encouragement for it (which to this day I still do not know why). Then I’ve dabbled in interviews – a completely new territory for me, and now I’ve been given the chance to spearhead my own magazine issue.

Chase Brockett - internus fantasmus

A lot of people I know living in this town are unaware of the fact that it is teeming with artistic talent.  Which is why I proposed dedicating an issue to that local talent.  The response has been overwhelming – way more than I had expected.  To those of you who didn’t make this round, there will be more opportunities to come! And until then, you can still share your work with the online community!

To keep these local artists insulated inside this issue, Bakotopian Samantha Gonzales shares her experiences in living off of $21 for one week as part of a food-stamp challenge, R.A.T. is back and is ready to bite, Matt brings back a piece of Coachella 2008 to enlighten those who missed out. And finally, a big Thank You! to everyone who came out and supported the Bakotopia Magazine 1 year anniversary bash at Chuys back on May 3rd,  a personal Thank You! to those who were kind enough to buy me some 21st birthday shots!  And one last Thank You! to you, (yes you) for keeping this baby alive!
