This First Time Mom Has Got The Kindergarten Blues …..
Well, I have to admit, I was a bit teary eyed and terrified at the prospect of my little guy going to Kindergarten. What if he gets on the wrong bus, quotes SpongeBob too often, or is otherwise fails to properly represent the average 5 year old. As I drove to work, among the many thoughts that swarmed in my mind were: God, I hope he: 1) Keeps his fingers out of his nose today, 2) Chooses his words carefully, 3) Really likes school this year, and wants to learn Then there’s all the back to school meetings. Am I the only one out there that is amazed but what they are expected these kids to know at the end of the year? Let’s also not forget about the homework, and all the projects and things that will be hopefully be absorbed into his brain over the next year. It’s terrifying as a parent if you haven’t been through this scenario before. I guess it’s that time of year, when us Moms get the Kindergarten Blues…anybody else feel that way? I guess my little boy is growing up. Sniffle, sniffle 6 comments from 3 users

AWW Christine I feel your pain. My oldest started kindergarten this year. I was a bit more prepared because she had gone to preschool also. I think the thing that helped me out a lot was that she wanted to go so bad! You know instead of clinging on for dear life was more like, "OK mom you can leave now! " lol I am lucky enough to be able to drive and pick up my daughter from school but if I couldn't the whole bus thing would scare me to death, and I'm sure make things much harder on me! :) As far as the stuff they will be expected to learn... I'm not to worried. They are like sponges at that age. lol My daughter never fails to blow me away with her memory. Just the other day we saw a dead coyote on the side of the road which lead to a discussion about them. She asked me if they were nocturnal. When I asked her if she knew what that word meant she said, "Yes, that means they'd only come out at night like bats! This was something she was taught last year during Halloween time....lol...not bad! posted by

Thanks Countygirl! He was in preschool, too, but for some reason, he seems to think that he wants to go back to his preschool where he had "Fun." The whole concept of homework and schedules is an entirely new prospect. posted by
