An open letter to the residents of Bear Valley Springs...
Wasn't it one of the Fickerts family members that said Bear Valley was Paradise? Well, it would appear that my small piece of paradise is slowly being consumed by the ugliness in the human spirit of its residents. Yes it is a beautiful place to live, but how can it be a paradise, when people don't practice the caveat of "Live and Let Live."

We are at war, people are losing their sons and daughters daily, people are losing their homes due to variable rate mortgages, people are losing life-long spouses and companions due to illness. Now I ask you: how can a barking dog, a trash can gone loose, or something only slightly irritating about your neighbor compare? Why do some Bear Valley residents feel compelled to get on their soapbox or intrude and tell their neighbors how to live their lives? What gives you the right to so arrogantly assume anything about your neighbors if you don't even have the common decency to communicate your concerns with them before you write your letters to the BVSA, CSD, or animal control? It's called a conversation, try having one the next time you feel compelled to make a complaint under the cloak of anonymity and frankly, cowardliness.

It’s no wonder that many people think everyone in Bear Valley is rich and snobby! What are you willing to do to change that? I know that I am doing everything I can to give my neighbors the benefit of the doubt. I mind my own business, and if I did have an issue, I certainly would engage in the courtesy of a conversation before jumping to ill-founded conclusions. Maybe you should try having a conversation with your neighbors, about your trivial complaints, before you contribute further to the poisoning of our paradise.

The above editorial was published this week, and I just wanted to blog it too, to get some input from both people who live in BV and other local residents. Not everyone who blogs reads the whole paper and vice-versa. Have you had good or bad experiences? What are your impressions and opinions? What would you like to change?

If you have a scenario to vent please try to offer a solution as to what could have been done differently so that we can try to make positive steps.  I  communicating with the BV Board of Directors and the CSD , and I am trying to evoke changes for the better. I have heard allot of people venting and mumbling under the breadth but this is exactly  the type of information that needs to be put  out in the open. Everyone complains, no one does anything about it.  So please, participate if you have something to add, and maybe we can get somewhere and come together as a community.

I looked at a number of gated communities, and I have to admit that while I was there, I could definitely see the appeal. But I ultimately decided that I need to be out among the general public, warts and all.  I want to be able to plant what I want to plant, paint my house whatever color I choose, allow my visiting family and friends to park out front for days on end and have all the wind chimes my heart desires.

Do I love everything about my neighborhood? No, probably not, but from what some of the people living in BVS are saying, neither do they, so it sounds about the same to me.

I live on 100 acres in Brite Valley, outside the gate, I can ride my horse, quad, bike, whatever i want when i want, I piss off my front porch and shoot off the back without anyone having the right to complain about it.  I just love freedom.   As far as BV goes it is a very nice place but dont be fooled.  There is plenty of crime going on in BV and the cops there do a great job at keeping it under control.  I think most would be surprised to find out how many drug labs, grow rooms, outdoor crops, domestic violence/abuse and so on in the BV.  So it is a nice place to live but not really different than any other place you just pay a bit more for it.

I would truly be interested in hearing more about all these crimes in BV.  Police activity is generally a matter of public record.  Do they publish their crime sheets anywhere?

Im sure they publish them you should be able to go to the Police department and ask for the public record part of crimes in BV, but theres alot of disturbances that go on that you will not hear about.  Dont be naive wherever there are people there is crime believe me BV is not a crime free zone.

Barking dogs are a huge irratation.  We've had dogs, so we understand about barking.  If are darling dogs were barking, we were very aware that the neighbors were being annoyed and we brought them in and they wouldn't sssh.  And we walked them.  And we trained them.  And we picked up after them.  They didn't jumpt on visitors.  They didn't lick your face unless you specifially requested such attention.  We loved them dearly - but non stop barking is not acceptable.

I have found that the problem with barking dogs is almost always the owners.  They simply are not the people being irratated.

So, I've walked over and knocked on their door.  Some people are very polite but the barking continues.  Some are not polite and give you grief because "geez, don't ya know, dogs bark?"

After several conversations, I'm not above making a few phone calls to the local authorities because after several conversations, it is obvious my little knock on the door and polite conversation doesn't have the desired results.

What results do you expect from the police?  What do you want the police to do about a barking dog?  the only way to not be near a barking dog that is not yours is to have no neighbors at all? I dont believe freedom from barking dogs is in the BV rules.  You are right the owners are always to blame.

Our neighbors have hmmmm, 4 or 5 dogs in their yard, Adjoining our back yard.  Every morning without fail, one starts the others start.  Sometimes I think they are have choir practice.  I don't know what they are barking at.  The neighbors living room is located right to the side of where the dogs are.  The bedrooms on the other hand are on the other side of the house.  In the summer we like to sleep with our bedroom window open.  Now I use a fan to block the barking.  Not much help, but a little.

I don't want them to get rid of the dogs, just teach them to shut up when you say shut up.  That's all.

We have 2 dogs, 5 cats, 2 birds and a turtle.  Oh and 6 kids.  They all sleep inside.  Not much noise unless its the cats hissing at each other.  Oh, and the 6 kids.....Isn't there an ordinance on that????
