What happened?
I have been off the net for a few months now and just got back on. I was getting very upset reading and catching up on what is being blogged. I was wondering what had happened to the bloggers that I had left. Normally there was some structure to the discussions. Sometimes it got heated, but a good debate and a compromising ending, mostly. I wasn't seeing some of the faithful bloggers like shane, prettytrippy, blaze, gregl, sparks, jewels, luvmykatz, aero, etc. Things were getting a little out of control right before I left but not like what I have been reading here. And so many new names. But my faith got restored after reading a few posts from kmj and bigdog. Common sense is looking like it's making a come back. And it looks like lori is trying to keep up a good fight.

There was a blog recently regarding the usage of 'anonymous' posting, and I could have sworn that most of the comments were in favor of abolishing it, yet it remains. IMHO, less than 5% of anonymous comments have any value, the rest are just obnoxious. BTW, I've always wondered what your profile picture is from? posted by

GregL...I don't know if you remember but awhile back we had a blog that ask about our user names. If you remember mine was about my deceased brother's favorite song and the coincidence that I figure what the word meant around the same time I accepted his death and so forth. Well, Colitas comes from Hotel California. Hotel California was a nick name for the Camarillo Mental State Hospital that opened in the late 30's and closed in the late 90's. It is rumored that it is haunted, not so much by evil, just past patients. If you know anything about how the mentally ill were treated years ago up until the early 90's, you can imagine the stories that are told about "Hotel California". They were going to turn it into a prison, which I personally think is ironic, but chose to turn it into a California State University which opened in 2002 or 2003. Long story short, my profile picture is a haunting view of one of the many hallways in the hospital before it was converted. Symbolically, it is my reminder of where my life was heading, and where I do not want to be again. Thanks for the welcome back. posted by

Yes, ironic about future of the mental hospital, turning it from one prison into another. posted by

Great story about your handle and the picture; I remember your original story. Very nice. I sometimes wish I had been more inventive about my "handle." Because I am not a computer whiz (understatement), it would probably take me an entire day to get a picture posted. As a girl and young woman, I was photogenic ..... not so anymore. My husband has set up photo sessions trying to capture the current, beautiful me ..... to no avail. So, don't want to post a current but ugly picture and doesn't seem right to post one 20 years old. posted by

The problem with the difficult people is that the more attention they receive, the more they write. On the other hand, many of the kinder, gentler posts out there get very little views or comments. I'm thinking of things like the guy who writes about his dog's competitions, where I'm almost the only person who comments. If people come on and feel like if they write something nice, nobody cares, but if they write something confrontational everybody jumps on board, which type of post do you think more people are going to write? Difficult posters are like small children throwing tantrums. The more attention you give them, the more they escalate. But if everyone walks away, there's no reason to keep screaming. Just my opinion. I'm glad to see you back, colitas. It's only going to be fun if the fun people stick around. posted by
