Doing anything this Weekend?
So on a lighter note then civil rights, religious rights, cloning, constitutional rights, etc, is anyone doing anything this weekend? Going anywhere with gas prices so high? Spending time with family or friends? Maybe actually acknowledging those that have been gone? We are going camping, swimming, fishing, tubing, playing on some Wave Runners. We got flooded out of our first campsite we were going to go too....water too high, no swimming or boating or fishing allowed, not to mention sites being flooded out. But we found another location with a boat dock and such. We have already spent too much money on this "camping" trip but we need it as a family. It's been a pretty tough 6 months or so with us. Not to mention moving to a new state and not knowing anyone or just being out of our element. Every year back in Co we use to get together with a bunch a people from all over and camp and ride bikes on this weekend. My son has been getting better the past month or two, but he had been very "home" sick and missed his old life. But now things are looking up for him and us carrying on this tradition seems to be helping. Plus we are going with some new people we have been getting know for the past couple of months and of course they have kids too. So we are really looking forward to this weekend, even though we could have probably went to some crowded amusement for the some amount of money we have spent already. But what it heck, it's about family right? Plus some of the items we got are for future uses as well, such as life jackets for the kids and us. My only concern is this is the first camping trip my two year will be on that he is mobile. So I'm sure I will come home with a few more gray hairs!! And the joy it's going to be for him to be sleeping in the tent with us. He is still in a crib so he isn't able to be mobile. It should be fun and an experience. So how about anyone else? Anything you are looking forward too? 5 comments from 5 users

We're planning on finishing a cat tree we made a few days back. It just needs to be carpeted, and maybe we'll put a shelf in it for storage. I have plenty of plants in need of rescuing as well. First the heat and now the wind... And it's been way too cold to mow the lawn today, so I'll probably do that on Saturday. On the bright side, I get to go target shooting :) That's always fun! posted by

Even back in the day when gas was cheap we were never big on traveling over a holiday weekend - except for Thanksgiving. We spent each T-day at Glamis riding our big kid tricycles...anyway, will be staying here and trying to save all the plants that got the crap beat out of them by those gale force winds the last two days. Poor things, not even established yet because I just got them planted in the last week or two.

We might still plan a short getaway this weekend, but I think we waited a little too late. We'll be going down to Orange County in a couple of weeks to see my sis-in-law get her judge's robes. The Governator finally gave her the appointment she's been working towards for years. I think it'll be nice to have a judge in the family....here comes da judge, here comes da judge.... posted by

My husband and I seem to have camping down pat, we don't have any kids so that of course makes it much easier. We are pretty organized, our camping stuff all stays in the same spot, so when we want to leave. it's all ready to go. We've found alot of really great places in California to camp so far. I'm sure there are many little hidden spots we have yet to uncover. This weekend we had planned on going out of town, until we realized what weekend it was. I think this weekend now we'll stick around close to home, probably go to Bakersfield a time or two. I enjoy travelling but when there are holiday weekends etc it can become very frustrating, very quickly. With so many extra people out and about (or I suppose I should say aboot) that perfect serene spot you were travelling to, may not be so tranquil, not exactly as you remembered it. I love peaceful places, listening to the water, the wind, smiling at the sun...I think I'll wait until next weekend to go on an adventure. posted by

I travel and go camping a lot... I always say it's more work than it's worth when I get home...but then I do it again and again. Camping is the best way I know to bond with family and friends..and of course get in touch with nature. The gas prices will slow many people from traveling. I still have to travel to AZ a few times a year and I can't stop going to Yosemite. However, I will not be doing as much traveling as I usually do because of the rise in gas prices and the even longer waits at the airport. Your son is going to have a blast and yes you probably will have more grey hairs when you get home... Let us know about your trip when you get back.....Be safe and have fun. I will be here at home playing Bio Shock and planting trees.
