The latest from the dog ranch:  Loki the beagle is moving to San Francisco on Wednesday!  Mandy got adopted to a wonderful lady in GH who will take her hiking on the weekends with her new sister dog.

These dogs still need to find their forever homes so they can make way for those still on my waiting list:

Rafferty:  Young male shepherd, great dog but needs a high fence or no fence. Steals the ladies hearts.

Casey: 1-yr. old female sight hound-type dog-maybe Saluki but tri-colored like a border collie. Sweet girl, 30 pounds. Can curl up into the smallest ball.

Thumper: 5-yr. old purebred German Shepherd-chases cattle which got him banished from a ranch. Great w/ kids and all else.

Baxter: 2 yr. old neuterd male retreiver mix. Shy but great with another dog. Will need patience but he is already coming aorund.

OK guys, I've had a few hundred foster dogs over the past six years but this one has me stumped!

Meet Casey, who arrived here this morning.  She's small, maybe 30 pounds, thin like a Saluki or whippet, those type of ears and some border collie coloring but no body features.  She's set to get spayed this Wednesday and will be up for adoption.  Help me decide what breed to call her so I can list on Petfinder.com.

Good news-Ben is being adopted by a wonderful older couple on 5 acres in the Old Town area.  Ben will be with them all day long and share their very well appointed metal barn at night with some barn cats.  They are installing an electric fence just so he doesn't wander off into traffic and become a stray ever again!  He should be in his new home by the end of January.  He is recovering well, most of his stitches are already out and he is almost ready to unveil his new streamlined (shaved) tail to the world.  Ben spent his first night in the house last night and was there smiling and ready to give me one of his special front-leg hugs when I got up this morning.  He wanted me to again thank everyone who contributed money toward his surgery.  He will now have a long happy life with a lady who already looks at him with love in her eyes.  Look for a future photo of Ben in the Jan.30th edition of the Tehachapi News!

Here is Ben, practicing to be a ranch dog.  Have a great day.

Hi everyone following the Ellie saga.  I went to Shawn's at lunch and we took her temp (don't you wish you could have a thermometer stuck up there?).  Check out the photos attached-her back teats are hanging on the ground!  Ellie has a new mom waiting in the winds (thank you Joty!).  I had three adoptions this week-Misty went to a 60 acre ranch in Hart Flat, Bruno headed off to 20 acres in Sand Canyon and Ellie too.  Ben is now in the house and he has had an offer for a foster home too.  So, new dogs arriving from North Edwards on Saturday-a flaky girl with two kids by two dads was living with her grandmother and didn't want to follow her rules, so she moved out and left two dogs with the poor 80-year old grandma who already has two dogs of her own.  Canine Canyon Ranch to the rescue!

And I also got a call from a poor older guy with a wonderful red/black German Shepherd.  His wife died, the son is in charge and hates the dog.  The old guy was crying and my heart really went out to him.  Put him in touch with GS Rescue but let me know if anyone wants a purebred german shepherd, 5 yrs old, neueterd, good with kids, cats, livestock, etc. Let's help this guy!

Will post pics of Ellie as she becomes a mama dog. Sleeping with the phone by the bed tonight!

For all of you following the Gentle Ben story, the vet called this morning and he is cancer-free!  All three tumors were benign with clean margins!!  So, he is free to be adopted with no worries about unknown $$ future vet bills.

Please pass this on to anyone looking for a wonderful mostly outdoor dog.

Ben is a neutered mature male collie/shepherd mix.  He is approx. 6 years old and weighed 91 pounds at the time of his surgery on Monday.  He has a wonderful collie coat which will require some grooming but keeps him very warm.  He is dog social, mostly housebroken and uses a dog door.  He does prefer being outside hence the "mostly" part. Ben doesn't mind cats and is the best walking companion you could ask for-no leash required!  He loves riding in a vehicle, especially in the back of the truck and jumps in on command.  He minds his manners, obeys basic commands and now answers to "Ben."  Is there someone out there who can give this gentleman a wonderful loving home for the second half of his life?

Please call Leslie at (661) 823-0111 or email to caninecanyonranch@wildblue.net for photos and more information.

Hello everyone:  Most of you know me as "the dog lady."  I rescue larger mutts, get them fixed and find them new homes.  I have found homes for over 200 dogs in the last six years.  And I don't do puppies. (You can just guess what is coming, can't you?)

So, Wednesday morning Ithis week, 'm getting ready to go to the vet with an unspayed female and, guess what?  She's suddenly VERY pregnant.  I am overwhelmed at the moment with Gentle Ben's recovery, a 210-pound older Dane that I can't find a home for who hates puppies, and five foster dogs.  I also have six owner-surrender or stray dogs on a waiting list.  I will have to shut down my dog rescue for 2-3 months unless I can find someone willing to take Ellie and keep her while she has her puppies in a nice stress-free warm environment.(NOT my house I assure you).

She is a wonderful young female border collie/black lab mix, about 2 years old.  I'm guessing she is due within the next three weeks.  I am doing some detective work with the family who surrendered her (they lost their house) to see what daddy might be like.  I can place the puppies at eight weeks old in LA County (where they have a mandatory spay/neuter law and puppies aren't discarded like trash!!) and Ellie will find a home easily once she is spayed.  She is fine with other dogs, not an alpha, OK with cats, doesn't jump (short BC legs) and is mostly housebroken and uses a dog door. I can provide food, shots for the new puppies.

Please forward this link to anyone you think may be able to help!! Calls to (661) 823-0111 or email to caninecanyonranch@wildblue.net.

Thanks all of you animal lovers.
