Mission San Luis Obispo
Here are some pictures from a recent trip to Mission San Luis Obispo.  We stayed at the Madonna Inn which is always a hoot!  And the mission is walking distance, only a mile and a half from the Madonna.  The downtown area is very nice too, with lots of shops and restaurants.

What wonderful pictures!  I've never been to that mission- looks like I'll have to make a trip there sometime.

I have been to a few missions and I have always enjoyed my visits. The history and the that feeling I get when I visit places of old. I enjoyed your pics, thanks.

Thanks Greg, we were looking for a place to visit some weekend. The last couple years have been hectic - is there anything special about the Madonna Inn?

GregL, isn't the Madonna Inn the one that each room is a different theme?

Yeah, the Madonna Inn is great.  www.MadonnaInn.com  They have 109 rooms and they are all different and quite unique!  Some rooms have rock or waterfall showers, like the original caveman room, which they told us is usually booked a year in advance!  You can see pictures of every room on their website too.  They are in the process of updating many of their rooms little by little, maybe all of them eventually, to be a little more modern and a little less... well tacky, but still unique!  Some rooms now have an outdoor patio and fireplace, how cool!  They now have a beautiful outdoor pool and two Jacuzzis, along with a fitness room.  They are in the process of building a day spa too.  They are really turning it into a resort rather than just a kitschy motel.  They also have two great restaurants and everyone there is quite nice.  If you take the train into San Luis Obispo like we did, they will send a van over and pick you up!  How great!

Awww, Greg, great pics-they make me kinda homesick! I used to live in Santa Maria, & we still still have a lot friends who live in the 5 Cities/ SLO area. The Mission is a wonderfully kept example of California missions. I used to work for a winery, & I used to love pouring wine at an event outside the Mission.

We stayed in the "Love Birds" Suite at the Madonna Inn last year. It hadn't been upgraded for awhile, but the shower was really cool-made out or rock! If you stay there in the older section, just be sure to lock your doors when your in the room. We had someone try to enter our room late one night (they opened the door & then closed it again quick)-gave us a good jolt!

Sycamore Hot Springs is another fun place to stay in that area. The rooms are a bit creaky, but the hot tubs are real nice! Good spa, too.

I love the restaurant choices there - did you go to anyplace special? Thanks for the pics...
