Bush Outdoes Clinton
While eating my porridge I found this "letter to the editor" in the Oregonian this morning, Friday, June 13, 2008: "The Republican Congress conducted impeachment proceedings against President Clinton for lying about a personal affair that had nothing to do with running a country. This was not the first time a president or vice president had had a mistress. Europe laughed at the United States for such a silly reason to impeach a president. "But George W. Bush and his administration have repeatedly lied to the American public about the reasons for going to war with Iraq, and about torture. We have lost allrespect from other countries, with Bush to blame. "I know you've heard this before, but when Clinton lied, at least no one died!" --Ronin Banks (North Portland) I couldn't have said it better myself.

What I don't understand is why so many persons hate the Clintons and especially Hillary. It's almost manic to hear the vitriole spewing out of some newscasters' mouths. I don't get it. When I've asked acquaintances about their extreme dislike of Hillary, I get reasons such as "a woman would make a mess of running the country" (this from a woman) or "she should have left him" or "it was her plan all along to use her position as wife of a president to run for president herself". Are these critics mind readers that they know what Hillary was thinking decades ago? I had one acquaintance tell me that we live in a country where we can choose what we want to believe. This Clinton bashing began as soon as Bill began his run for the presidency. It's almost as though there was a fear of their popularity driving this hatred. Can anyone explain it to me? Even now, when Sen. Obama is the presumptive Dem. nominee, they still can't leave Hillary alone. Very strange.
