Hodads Surf Shop...
It saddens me to have to stoop to this level because I am not a loud person. I will usually stay quiet when someone is rude or I am treated unfairly but I am getting very weary of shopping in this town. I went to Hodads today as I do about once a month when I usually end up spending atleast $50 on items that I settled on because they never have mediums in what I really want to buy, so I wander the store for about an hour until I can find something that I can handle wearing. Anyhow, back to the point, I did this again today, not finding my sizes in anything I was interested in I found a different item and went to the cash register expecting the normal, a somewhat rude teen to ring me up. Instead, I find two girls and a older woman who were all standing at the register and when I walk up all three head to the back of the store without apologizing or explaining that they would soon return! Being a very passive person I stood there about 5 minutes and then walked around a little more until I saw a girl coming back, returned to the register, quickly paid for my item and got out of there! Well to make a long story short I probably wont be going in there anymore, I was already tired of the attitudes I normally dealt with just being rang up and today was pretty much the last straw. Now, the purpose of this is not to talk bad about Hodad's, it is to give the owners an idea of what things are like when they are not supervising their employees. I have talked to quite a few people who refuse to shop there for the same reasons, I understand it is hard to find good help so I could excuse one or two times but my experiences have not been good, I have had friendlier cashiers in LA!

I understand your frustration but my question is why would you go back month after month to spend so much money on things that dont fit you and put up with the abuse? It baffles me. I wouldnt spend that much money on clothes that arent even my size. You should have asked the manager/owner to order your size. As for the rudeness, i would have asked to speak to a manager the 1st time it happened. I am wondering, a surf shop in Tehachapi? They must be really charging high dollar for their merchandise. And the surfboards probably come in handy :) posted by

I have been there a couple times I thought the same thing "Surf Shop??" but its just a Beach atmosphere, I don't think they sell surf boards (I'm not sure they even have one but its been a long time since i went in there) Anyway; I think their market is the teenage Pre-adult age group because most of the cloths are super small and if you are over a size 12 you will have troubles finding anything. If you are small enough to fit into something and you are much older than 30, you probably wont be interested anyway except for maybe bathing suits or shorts. I think their stuff is cute and I would have defiantly shopped there 25 years ago. I agree with both of you rudeness should not be tolerated and the owner should be contacted. I have been in our local Subway a few times and every time it's like a chore to wait on customers, I go to Quizno's now. It's so sad how many people have experienced this with our local businesses if any small business owners read this blog maybe they will wake up and realize customer service is vital for their survival. I still don't like the idea of Wal-Mart but thats for other blogs, I just fear our town is going to end up looking like Lancaster or Bakersfield and loose its uniqueness. I would like our small shops to survive but that will depend on them stepping up and working hard to keep their customers. posted by

I have to agree that rudeness is just not acceptable when you are running a business. Although I don't shop at Hodads, I did recently decide to try going back to Subway instead of Quizno's (which always has super friendly people working), and it was like it was putting the employees out to have to make our sandwiches, and it's the same thing everytime I go in there not just an isolated incident. I definitely don't want to shop somewhere that I feel like I am bothering the employees by actually making them do the job they are being paid for. Just a couple days ago I went to Home Depot to get some things for remodeling a house and went to the bathroom dept looking for new shower walls (this was the second time we'd made the trip because the first time we couldn't find anyone to help answer our questions), and even after I walked around looking for someone to help us I couldn't get any help, three employees actually looked right at me, didn't bother to ask if they could help, and kept doing what they were doing. I was so upset by the lack of customer service that they have definitely lost my business. I mean don't businesses teach their employees simple things like saying, "hi, is there anything I can help you find?" especially in a store like that. posted by

Hodads also owns the shoe store by Albersons. Same thing at that location. I took my 2 kids there and they picked out 4 deferent pairs of shoes, They didn't have their sizes in any of those 8 pairs of shoes. Also the guy working there was on his cell phone the whole time we were there and was bothered by us even asking for help.

I know this an older board but after seeing it I had to vent. I too have shopped their repeatedly and actually know the owner and most of the people who work there as well. I have supported this establishment ever since it opened but after last week I will not be returning. I was appalled at the way I was treated. There is absolutely no excuse for treating me like a common criminal especially with the amount of money I have put into this place. My daughter and i were escorted to the dressing room where we were having some one on one time while we were trying on clothes, upon exiting a male employee was sitting in a chair no less than 2 feet from our dressing room door. He had been there the whole time and when I asked him he said he was waiting for us because it was store policy. After much deliberation and feeling like a criminal I asked if they could hold two items until my husband came to pick them up. Attitude like no other from one of the owners and then on top of that my husband decided the one item did not go with what we needed. Well the owner then looked at two of her employees and said, "see this is why we don't hold items." As if the sale were the most important thing. I think CUSTOMER SERVICE should have been tops on her list but no go. I left feeling like trash and will shop elsewhere in the future. Thanks but no thanks... P.S. If they are having issues with shoplifting then they should take the measures they claim to be and stop treating us all like shoplifters. posted by
