LoriMorales - > -> Patraeous's boss
Patraeous's boss

Admiral William Fallon, appointed by Secretary Gates, is the Pentagon man whom General Patraeous reports directly.

I didn't know that. It sure seemed like Patraeous reported directly to the president.  Maybe I'm not smart enough, but I'm thinking Patraeous was purposely presented this way because Patraeous is Bush's front man on the positive spin.

Admiral Fallon has given his preliminary report on Iraq.  And it is really amazing.  Here's a couple exerts:

Fallon thinks the Iraqi government is a complete failure, unable to provide even the easiest of solutions and, even to the point that they have no intention of creating a political solution because it is not in their personal best interest.  (Bush addressed the Iraqi people in his speech .... apparently he is not aware they only have electricity about 20% of the day .... and that's on a good day.)

Fallon thinks we need to redeploy and return home 2/3rds of our current troops and have that completed by next spring.  Now that would be 2/3rds of all our the troops - all 168,000 of them.

Fallon thinks that neither the Iraqi government (or our own diplomats) have made any progress.  The Sunni tribal leader directly responsible for some peace in Al Anbar Province was just murdered.  The oil sharing agreements between the Kurds, Sunnis and Shiites is falling apart before it even gets started.  And just so we know how twisted the oil sharing nonsense is - the Kurdish regional government signed its own agreement with the Dallas branch of Hunt Oil - which is owned by Ray Hunt, who is a Bushie friend and good ole boy - or should we say "good oil boy."

Fallon is reporting we are bogged down in Iraq, which is NOT the central front of Al Qeida.  Only 5% of the violence in Iraq is Al Qeida related.  The rest is the fight between the Sunnis and Shiites.  And as stated over and over and over - this is a civil war that our troops cannot win.

And Fallon thinks Patraeous is a kiss up.  Surprise, surprise, surprise.

How unfair of Bush to say to our troops that they can "return on success," when there can be no success in this brutal civil war that has a history of many hundreds of years.

And the corker is the House Republican Leader (John Baynor) today is quoted as saying, "this is a small price to pay."

I think the entire families of Bush, Cheney, McCain, Giuliani, and Baynor should be deployed to Iraq and not allowed to return until there is a democratic government that can govern itself, sustain itself and police itself.

And I can't help but wonder, where is our top diplomat at the State Department, Dr. Condi Rice?  Since people are dying, shouldn't she be front and center and working - like overtime - in helping to create a political solution?

I can't speak for Lori, but what exactly is wrong with the ad? A little word-play is offensive to you? Do you also get offended by right-wing pundits who use the same type of word-play against liberals?

Rickenbacker, have you seen the fact-check page that goes along with the ad? Care to point out where the ad's facts are wrong?

https://pol.moveon.org/petraeus.html

Have you ever bought print advertising, Rickenbacker? I have, and y'know what? When you buy advertising on a regualr basis in any publication, there's usually a discount rate offered. the more you advertise, the less you pay per ad. Great concept, no? Anyway, if Rudy or anyone else wants to negotiate a discounted rate for advertising based on frequency, I'm sure they'd be more than welcome. In fact, I'm sure Rudy & his people already know this. Kinda disingenuous of him, don't you think?

You play fast & loose with facts about Democrats, here & on another thread. I'm calling on you to back up your statements, please.

As stated in my previous post "So Let Me Get This Straight" ..... about the second or third entry down ..... I think moveon.org always goes too far in order to make a point.  Nothing new in political organizations doing that - both right and left - and I don't think it should be done.  This kind of ad is very likely to continue to be done and - comeon - the Republicans, pro-war group cannot take the high ground.  Pa lezzzzzzz

Now, as we find from today's news, Patraeous is not considered much by his boss.  I will have to defer to Admiral Fallon.

If you're up for the good debate, respond to what the Admiral is saying.

Unfortunately - men and women are dying.  That is the reason that this administration's policies are so very wrong and dangerous.  And unlike Republican Representative Baynor, I will NEVER feel it has been a small price to pay.

And as suggested above - everyone in favor of the war in Iraq, pay your small price and send in all your family members.  Little Billy, only 2 years old now, according to the Bush/Cheney/Patreous "plan" will be able to pay his small price too.

And remember, it has been stated by all respected individuals that Iraq is NOT the major front on terrorism.  In Iraq, Little Billy will be fighting to stabilize the oil market for Hunt Oil, based out of Texas - some where near "the Bush ranch."

I'm confused, a right-wing rant is credible, but a left-wing rant isn't? How's that workin' for you?

Both democrats and republicans have denounced the ad.  Move on Rickenbacker.  Stay on point and address what the Admiral is saying.

You're still not making any sense, Rick. (Hope you don't mind me calling you Rick.) If you are not offended by the ad:

"oohchild, I am not really offended"

Then why are you requiring anyone else to be offended by it?

"it's interesting how no political candidate will reject that ad as offensive,"

"thats why the candidates will not speak out against the ad."

And you still haven't pointed out the offensive part, as projected by you. Is it just the fact that the NYT discounted the ad? Are you supportive of governmental regulations over advertising rates?

Okay & thanks, now I see your point. A group that attacks someone's military service should be publically denounced, right?

[oohchild googles "Bush denounces swift boat ads"]

"President Bush on Monday criticized a commercial that accused John Kerry of inflating his own Vietnam War record, more than a week after the ad stopped running, and said broadcast attacks by outside groups have no place in the race for the White House.

“I think they’re bad for the system,” added Bush, who had ignored calls to condemn the ad while it was on the air."

I guess if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Maybe you'll get your wish soon, & they'll condemn the ad too late, also.

Thanks oohchild and "rick."

I don't really agree with your summation rick, regarding dems not voicing their opinion against moveon because they are afraid of them and what they'll say.  First, because moveon is a radical group, like the swiftboatvets.  Most people discount any leanings that go too far left or right.  Not to say that no one listens - just that the majority doesn't.  We hear from the far side all the time at this site!!!!  (Don't just just love em?)

Usually, when hatred is used to make a point, people turn away, even when they agree with the point.  I'll use myself as an example.  I turned away from moveon.org's point, never read all the way through and consider them a very bad side of our freedom of speech.  But moveon has made a point that I agree with and that is because of Admiral Fallon's assessment of General Patraeous.  Patraeous is in Bush's pocket and that makes me want him to go away and feel his is Bush's current mouth piece.

So many Generals have gone away because they disagreed with Bush, so Patraeous, in agreement with Bush will probably be the one that gets to stay.

Rickenbacker, my second point is one you in which we'll disagree .... right out of the gate!  But here goes.  I'm thinking the majority of Americans are going to vote for a Democratic president.  Period.  Which one remains to be seen, but I think it's gonna go with the dems.  And, I think the dems think so too.  So - radical, cliff dwelling, knuckle dragging groups like moveon just don't count in the big picture.
