LoriMorales - > -> Obama vs Clinton
Obama vs Clinton

I want to listen carefully to each of these Democratic candidates.  I appears, at this moment, they will be the front runners.

A woman president doesn't worry me in the least.  My only concern with Hiliary is the same one expressed by TehachapiManMan (are there two of you?) and that is the Republicans will smear her and that smear could very well bury her.  Those individuals that disliked the Clintons, still dislike the Clintons and boy, it runs deep and long.

Whether Obama is Muslim or Christian doesn't worry me in the least.  Who's old enough to remember the load and annoying chatter about John F. Kennedy being Catholic?  It disappeared after he was elected and never interfered with his presidency.  To my knowledge, only Bush has made comments about his Iraw war and that God is on his side .... that's an approximation of his statements.

The war - big part of this election and I think the next president will be elected on a platform that includes ending the war in Iraq.  The facts are:  This war CANNOT be won militarily.  The Iraqi Study group says so, the Iraqi's say so (both the population and their elected leaders - and the insurgents!), the military (you remember the ones that have each been replaced with another that, just a coincidence - but the new ones agreed with Bush!!!! - amazing), and most of our elected leaders.  Only the yes (wo)men are left on the side with our president.

Someone commented on Geffen's statement about the Clinton's being liars.  His comment actually indicated that ALL politicians were liars - and that the Clinton's were good ones.  So, if you accept Geffen's opinion that the Clinton's are liars then you need to accept his opinion that all politicians are liars.  Little logic applied:  If all politicians are liars - wouldn't it be a good thing to have a good one in place?  Personnally, I don't think we should pay much attention to the smears that will be crawling out - get the real facts and then make your best decision.

I agree with Lori and TehachapiManMan about the biggest obstable to a female candidate for president being partisan rhetoric/backlash.

Did you ever see a movie called "The Contender" with Joan Allen? The movie's slogan went something like, you can assasinate a candidate without firing a shot...  But  I believe that Hillary loaded massive weapons of her own destruction during her husband's Presidency.

Here are a few famous quotes by a man who hated "imperialist politics" - Not unlike the type of politics currently being employed in Iraq under the guise of democracy.  George Orwell  died in 1950, a full 34 years before his most famous novel's title.

"During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act."

“Political language. . . is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.”

"We sleep safe in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm."

"He who controls the present, controls the past. He who controls the past, controls the future."

"The nationalist not only does not disapprove of atrocities committed by his own side, but he has a remarkable capacity for not even hearing about them."

-George Orwell

Sushioo - give me some examples of Hilary loading weapons of her own mass destruction?

Gee, read Orwell a long time ago ----- loved it then, must pick it up again.  That's scary.

I've been excited about Barack Obama ever since I saw him light up the Democratic National Convention in 2004. When he spoke, he made me excited for the future and what it could bring. I'm looking forward to hearing more from him. I'd also love to see a female president. My fear with Hillary is that she is so polarizing, for so many reasons, that if she were to get the nomination the country might well be handing the presidency to the Republicans again. I'll be watching closely.

Obama speaks with such ease and confidence that he reminds me of John and Bobby Kennedy - only Barack doesn't have that "royal"  family luggage.  However, Barack's camp should just ignore all the fuss over Hiliary's non-apology on the Iraq war vote.   And that is not to say I didn't agree with the "why should I apoligize for what someone else said?" response.  Some things are just better left unsaid.

How long before a Clinton - Obama ticket will buzz around? For me it is substance, not speaking style and glamour. So neither of these will get my vote. Still haven't heard a real policy point from either,  just "we want change", "the people want change", "hate Bush - Bush lied - Bush tricked me"  blah blah blah. Great posts aero and oleblue.

great cartoons olebluelight, and so true,,,,,its so early for campaigns, I think Hillary will regret getting started so early,,,,,,she has so much baggage, I can't believe anyone would vote for her,

What I was thinking of a few weeks ago was, maybe if it gets to rough for Hillary, and John Edwards gets the nomination, he will ask Hillary to run as his Vice President,,,,,,then, she still gets in the white house and Bill comes back too, and they still run everything by whispering in Johns ear,,,,,,,,,frightening,,,,,

sushisoo, that is one of the best Truth / fact based web pages I have ever seen on Hillary, thank you , this is all the baggage I am referring to, if after reading that page, people still think she is a great woman who would be a great president, they have their head buried in the sand,,,,,,,,

That's all good (actually  bad) stuff on Hilary - but most is really old news.  They have similar web sites on all the other candidates.  If you read that stuff and take it to heart, and make decisions based on that data, that's all well and good.  We all get our point of view.  But your point isn't balanced unless you read all the stuff on everyone else.

Thats true Lori, but there is alot of new stuff I could give you too, but its a long time until the election, I will get into it more in about a year,it's still very early for me to even guess who I might vote for,,,,,I can't think of anyone on the democratic side that I would right now,,,,or the republican side for that matter,,,,,Hillary is such an easy target,,,, you have sooooooooo much to hit her with,
