Be prepared for heavy rain and high wind this weekend. Home Depot sells sandbags for 25 cents each. The other hardware stores may have some also.
If you don't get misty after watching this you're hibernating. Watch and listen to the entire 7 minutes. Article in this week's edition "As a taxpayer, I don’t think we need to keep giving things to the Kern County Fire Department,” said resident Liz Fox, in response to the city’s resolution to donate the large, white, tent utilized by the now-dissolved Tehachapi Fire Department as a temporary equipment shelter. I don't agree with the reasoning of some that believe the city should sell the tent rather than allow the county to use it to park fire equipment. If placed at Station 12 the tent would benefit the city by protecting fire equipment that is used for serving the community, likely including some of the fire equipment originally purchased by the city. Parking the equipment under cover will prolong the life and reduce damage caused by exposure to the weather and sunlight. This scenario will provide quick response and allow for more efficient maintenance of the equipment with the ultimate result being optimal service to the residents of the city. I see this as an excellent decision and a sign of unselfish cooperation between two entities dedicated to providing the best possible service to the residents of Tehachapi. Cooperation, Tehachapi as it should be.
Any good local apple info out there in blogland? I took my family to Pulfords the other day and bought a box of Golden Delicious. My daughter and I made a pie that turned out OK but with gooey bottom crust. We should have baked the bottom crust before putting in the filling. I ate one of the goldens today and was disappointed, hope the rest are better. I remember how enjoyable it was touring all the local farms when the kids were younger, good memories. Any advice out there for an experience beyond just buying a box of apples? How about some good apple pie recipes? Remember the Holiday season coming up, count your blessings and stay possitive and you will have better days.
