Good experience/Bad experience/Indifferent.............Do tell, do tell........

I am quite new to Tehachapi still and haven't ventured into many of the local stores around town. The stores I have been to I have had some very good, some very bad experiences.

I am making this blog for exactly that - so together we will be able to see what establishments are worthy and perhaps weed out some of the not so good ones.

If you have had a good experience, post it, and the same for a negative experience.  I'm sure we'll noice some trends before long.

I went to Subway the other day. While there, the employee was making the guy ahead of me's sub. The phone rang, he answered it with his gloves on, talked, hung up, and continued making the sub with the same gloves (ugh) If it was mine, I would have said something, but the guy infront of me either wasn't paying attention or just didn't care so I kept my mouth shut. Regardless, if you get food there, pay attention when they make it.

I have to add one more to my list of no-no's.  Mountain Crossing.  I assume they changed owners.  I've never had Mexican style shrimp scampi, didn't thing there was such a thing.  I know that "normal people" probably wouldn't order shrimp scampi from Mountain Crossing and expect it to be great.  But I would have expected the garlic, butter sauce and not a watered down version of salsa. I've been going there for years because of the "hometown" feel and friendly waitresses.  That feeling is gone and we won't be back there.

Stage Stop Chevron is great.  It's best when you go in with Bigdog because Mark likes to chase him around the store with a tazor or plastic bullets.  It's fun to watch.  Of course he would never tazor him, but Bigdog has been shot a couple of times.  We keep going back, so ... there must be some kind of appeal to the place.

Witt's is a place to get unusual gifts.  I've bought several there and had compliments from everyone I've given a gift to.  They have really cute Christmas ornaments out every year.  Along with other holidays.  You can always find something nice there no matter what time of year.  Very reasonable prices.  The people are friendly.  I love Witt's.  I've got a couple of gifts I need to get for a gift exchange.

Well let me start by saying that we each have our own heartfelt reasons for liking one place or another..let me start with:

Good= Las Palmas (was getting bad, but improved almost overnight), Quiznos, Carlos' donuts (yummy), Henry's home for less, Fuller 'n Fuller (Cute things), Primos Burgers (FINALLY!!!!), Save Mart (great customer service, bad in store service; I used to work there), Rigby's (great meatballs sandwich), Jakes Steak House (just pricey), Hitching Post Theaters (my hubby calls them the wide screen tv's, I'm just glad we finally have a theater up here.), Tehachapi Furniture Store (Extremely nice people who will go out of their way for you), King of Siam (Awesome fried calamari and they are extremely friendly), Johny's Take and Bake (very good)

Okay= Walgreens (customer service is touch and go), Great Wall (sometimes their food can be over cooked or over salted), Village Grille, Witts (cute stuff, can be a little expensive, but great for office supplies), City slickers(over priced junk), Home Depot ( I truly love this store and I am just so happy it opened since it will hopefully put certain other businesses out of business, but you can get lost)

Real Bad= Domingos (we've been there several times, and won't go back, they went bad about 7 years back and I've known people who have worked there, you do NOT want to know what happens if your food lands on the floor!!), Pioneer true value (I can't say enough about the little Hitler who owns it.  I used to work there also and it was unbearable.  I actually saw the owner throw a large bolt at a customer!), Golden Hills School (I had to put that one up), Albertsons (extremely rude customer service), K-Mart ('nough said), Don Perico's (canned, freeze dried crappola YUCK! Taco smell is better), Apple Shed (What the heck happened to them, when they first opened they were great and their little store is wonderful), Debbies and five heart quilts (over priced fabric and their customer service can be different extremes of rude), Sonic, Old Towne Pizza (over priced, took forever, rudeness), Curves.

It's really hard to "shop Tehachapi" when a lot of times it's 3-4 times the price or they are extremely rude.  Unfortunately we won't get a wal-mart until 2011, but at least it's on it's way.  It's a shame that people are so against new businesses from coming in simply because of the competition.  Then be nicer, treat your customers better, have better products, food or whatnot.

I just wanted to say thank you for all the people who have posted. It is great to hear about good experiences you have had but also helpful to hear about the negative ones. I feel confident now about trying a few new places I haven't been to and being fairly certain what kind of service to expect based on the opinions of people here.

I hope you keep posting your experiences and together as a whole we will see what businesses stand out from the crowd.

Have a great day all!

True Value has very bad service and yes the owner is rude and kinda a big jerk. I can't believe it hasn't gone under. He promised me a delivery between 8 and 12. At 1 I called and was told it was on its way.  At 3 I called back and was told it would be here the next day. When I complained the owner told me to come and get my money back. When I got to the store 5 minutes later he was gone and no one could give me my money back. Stay away from this place!!!!!!!!!

Yeah it's been awhile gube....the last thing I remember is they shut it down a couple times but kept re-opening it.  At least the bar area did, not too sure about the eating area.

BEST SERVICE:

Canine Creek (always friendly, always helpful & knowledgable, great selection),

Henry's Homes 4 Less (always friendly, employees actually take you to the things you're looking for, and they carry the heavy stuff to your car),

Drive-Thru Dairy,

Carlos' Donuts (always very friendly),

Las Palmas (great food).

Olan Mills (inside K-mart)- the ladies that work there are really friendly & take awesome pictures

WORST SERVICE:

Home Depot-I could write a book on my bad experiences with them, either there are no employees to be found, or the ones that are around don't offer to help. Why do they only have one employee in the paint department when there is always a line?? I did have the pleasure of dealing with the 40ish gentleman that works in paint, I was actually on the other side of the store and was looking at paint color samples, he was on his way to clock out for lunch, he stopped and asked if he could help me with anything before he left...that was truly impressive to me. Of course, that was the one and only time I saw him...lol. The last time I went to Home Depot for some things there was only 1 employee to be found in all of garden, paint, carpet, tile, etc. She was working the garden section and didn't really know much about the other stuff that half a dozen customers were stopping her for, but bless her heart she was super friendly & tried her best to help every single on of us. I think it sucks that Home Depot put her in that position by not staffing well enough, and I wouldn't be surprised if she quit after dealing with all that.

K-mart-Why do I always have to walk all the way to the front of the store to get help in layaway?? The button that you can push to call for help back there has even been broken for like 3+ years now. Employees are hard to find, they are either out of stock or don't carry it, they have like 20 checkouts but only 2 are ever open, and everytime I have gone to the customer service counter to exchange something the employee working is too busy talking to others to even look at me while doing the exchange. I even had to ask for a bag to put my exchanged item in since I was going to be doing some shopping & didn't want anyone to think I was stealing it, and the girl literally thrust a bag at me (rather than put the item in it herself) and never said a single word. The manager guy (tall, skinny, dark hair) is always smiling & friendly when I pass him & HE offers to help but he needs to do something about his employees.

I have hated Pioneer True Value since I moved here 8 yrs ago, there is never anyone around to help and the male owner was always super rude to customers, going as far as telling one man "if you don't like it, shop somewhere else."  I am wondering if they have gotten wind of the bad name they have given themselves because the last 2 times I went in there (only because they were the closest to my house & I was in a hurry) I was met by the owner who was friendly and helpful...very strange. The girls as the check-out are always very sweet though.

Don Juan's is where Bubba's BBQ was, next to Ranch Service & Supply on South.  DJ's isn't Mexican, it's South American / Caribbean.  I love the kabobs.
