have you had your poutine today?
Mmmmmmmm............I love poutine!! Poutine is the unofficial dish of Canada and, short of stuffing raw lard into your gullet, perhaps the most unhealthy food on planet earth. It’s “a dish consisting of French fries topped with fresh cheese curds and covered with hot gravy (usually brown gravy) and sometimes other additional ingredients. Poutine is a fast food staple in Canada; it is sold by many fast food chains (such as New York Fries and Harvey's) in the provinces, in small diners and pubs, as well as by roadside chip trucks. International chains like McDonald's,A&W,KFC and Burger King also sell mass-produced poutine across Canada. Now my question is this.....................Does anyone know anywhere in Cali that I can get some good poutine, or maybe even buy some cheese curd and make my own? Thanks!! 13 comments from 8 users

That may be popular in Canada but it sounds gross to me... ewww! In California you can probably find it on the menu as: "Heart attack on a plate" posted by

LOL! Sorry, I'm with ragmop on this one. Just reading the ingredients made my stomach turn, and I LOVE fries. This happens a lot though during early pregnancy! :)~ I wish you all the best on your quest for poutine! posted by

My sister lives in Ontario. I'm afraid I missed the pleasure of sampling this dish last time I went for a visit. I know Long John Silver's/A&W in Bakersfield sells fried cheese curds. They also have the fries... but no gravy on their menu I'm afraid! I'll check with my sister and brother-in-law. Maybe they found someone local to get it on one of their visits to California. I'm sure some of the diners in town could serve you up some french fries and brown gravy though... or is it the cheese curds that "make" the dish? Kelcy's has good gravy. Also Kelley's Cafe on Brian Way has some good heart-stopping food on their menu. They might be able to re-create something similar. posted by

Congrats countygirl ~~!! Having any crazy cravings at all? Thanks for the ideas :) I think I'll be heading to Trader Joes tomorrow :) Now if I could just find somewhere that has some British food like some delicious scones.... And although the sound of something with 'clotted cream' doesn't sound mouth watering, it is
