Here fishy, fishy, fishy.............

So....the derby at brite lake was pretty much a bust for everyone, still fun and all, just no catfish biting.

We went out a few times since, and nothing. Yesterday, we decided to try again. We spent 6 hours fishing-looking for a catfish, a bass, a crappie, anything that would bite. We tried most everything, different bait, different top waters, different techniques, nothing worked - not a single bite for either of us all day. We've battled the bugs and also gone in the late evening, still nothing. Most of the anglers we spoke with were also having the same luck.

We did look down once and see a catfish about a foot from the surface, He looked like he was half alive and was covered in some sort of fungus - poor fishy. There were also about 15-25 dead catfish I saw floating and up on the bank and into the weeds. That surely will be smelling nice and ripe soon. Hopefully, they have someone to clean up all the poor dead fish.

What I am wondering is does anyone know why the catfish are dying so quick? I was wondering if maybe it had something to do with the change in elevation or something like that.  I'm hoping it isn't something they have that will pass onto the the other fish in the lake...

Any ideas?

Very interesting. I was wondering if anyone had forward' these blogs to park & rec. No bites for us either. I'm glad you had fun @ The Derby, for us, it was frustrating, & way too hot. That being said, & no bites I guess we've lost interest, we were on a serious trout roll for a while.

I actually don't even eat fish at all. Everything I catch I throw back so I can catch it again when it gets bigger LOL.

My husband loves his fish taco's though. He keeps what he catches when we are ocean fishing, but anything in Brite lake or around Bako gets thrown back in,

Brite lake has been dead since the catfish plant...I have been out to brites several times and nothing. I have friends that fish from a boat and they haven't had any luck either. The plants are controlled by the fish and game so I don't think any elevation change is the problem..........They planted 1,000 pounds of catfish and some where expected to die. My guess it is just taking the catfish a while to adjust to the lake....hopefully in a week or so they will start biting....As far as the trout go's.....Either its been to hot for the trout or maybe the lake is fish out of the trout.....

Read the cats were biting on anchovies last week in the californian.   Have fished four island a couple times in the last two weeks caught a few crappies and bluegill on mini jigs.

Crappie is about he best fish to eat light tender flaky whitefish.... So yes i'd eat crappie anyday.
