Apologies
Now Imus is out after making some nasty remarks about college women on a Rutgers basketball team. He publicly apologized, as he should. There's another apology I'd like to hear. The Duke lacrosse players, young college men, were falsely accused of rape, assault, and making racially threatening remarks. They were reviled nationally by Rev. Al Sharpton and Rev. Jesse Jackson, among others. Will the goodly reverends be as public in their apologies to these college men? Will they admit they made a mistake in jumping on the finger-pointing circus without a shred of proof? In the deafening silence, which I will bet we'll hear on this subject from these men of good faith, I will wonder what has become of the American hopes for a colorblind society.

Did you hear that Jesse Jackson's Rainbow Foundation had offered to pay for the college tuition of the accuser in the Duke case? They said they have been unable to contact her about it. If she has any sense, she'll stay away from that with a ten foot pole. I wonder if they still want to pay for her education now? Maybe they should have waited for the case to settle before making such an offer. And I'm sure we won't hear an apology to the Duke players either. Every incidence like this just lowers the already low respectability of Sharpton and Jackson even more. posted by

Well, I am totally against racism, but , I do support free speech. Yes, there is a double standard, that's clear. Yes, Sharpton and his crew should apologize to those La Crosse players. If he did, I would have a lot more respect for him. Personally, I think it's about these guys wanting to be in the limelight more than anything. They are attention ho-ho-ho's! Then there are the real rainmakers that take on civil rights cases as pro-bono matters and never try to draw attention to themselves or profit from the media attention. Look 'em up, they are out there. Big Brother is upon us, folks, where no one can say anything. I am not saying Imus is right either, I think it was a very insensitive comment. But why has he been singled out? Has anyone been to a comedy club and heard all the stuff the comedians say that are jokes about all races? They run through the gamut and no one is left out of the barrage. Our freedom of speech is eroding, and while I think what Imus said was out of line, he is a shock jock, Hello, this is what they get paid to do. It doesn't mean they actually believe what they say or are racist. I am tired of the double standard and all of the politically correctness. I think the whole scenario has been blown way out of proportion. posted by

Sharpton and Jackson are media whores...My poor husband hates the fact that these two idiots are looked at as being "Black Leaders" when in fact they are far from the leaders that black america needs today. They are instigators and hypocrites and dont deserve anymore attention then they have already gotten.posted by

JackAS are not unlike the Chicken Little scientists who claim global warming is your fault (oh yeah, that's another blog, sorry), they both have much to lose by NOT advocating their positions. What if there were no racial tensions? Then JackAS would fade into obscurity, and even though JackAS will tell you that is what they are striving for, in reality they are helping perpetuate it. I'm sure JackAS will tell us that racial tensions would be worse without them, but I beg to differ and I would like to give it a try. posted by

Poor white people having to deal with unjust double standards how do you make it? Black people dealt with it for a few hundred years, so toughen up whites cause when your the minority in this country it will only get worse. I don't even know how someone can comment on racial issues coming from tehachapi where its white bread central, good old uncultured white town. Let me tune my violin for the social inequity whites are being dealt i feel so sorry for you,,,,,, NOT! posted by

It is unfortunate that a small group of minorities have decided to slip backwards after the hard work and dedication of the Martin Luther King era; it is also unfortunate that these few have such a loud voice. More should really listen to the preaching of Rev. Bill Cosby and blame themselves for their own problems rather than everyone else. Life is a series of choices and I know many minorities (like my wife) that have CHOSEN to be better and they are, but I also know a few that have chosen to blame society, racism, their parents, the system, etc... and they are losers because of it. Sticks and stones... If these "ladies" were not examples of Imus' comments, they should have not been offended and written it off as the rants of an angry old radio guy with a small group of listeners. Just like I have told the Howard Stern haters, if you don't like what he says on his show, DON'T LISTEN! If what he says offends you, then perhaps there may be some truth to his statement. When people like "anonymous" write statements like the one above, it is obvious they are one of the blamers, not one who is intelligent enough to WANT to be better and make that their choice. - Nappy Headed Red posted by

RE: "I don't even know how someone can comment on racial issues coming from tehachapi where its white bread central, good old uncultured white town." Anonymous~ I would like to respond to this comment. Your comment perpetuates intolerance and racism. It becomes a vicious circle of hatred. First, there are allot of people who come from big towns and have moved here because they hate the big city life. There is allot more tolerance here than you might think. Second of all, I can only speak for myself, but I mean it when I ask: How can long should I apologize just because I am white? I can't help the color of my skin anymore than people of color can. Third, all of my grandparents were immigrants, and I never participated in slavery. Why do you feel like you should be treated differently now because of something that happened a hundred years ago, that neither you (likely) nor myself were part of? Forth, why should I have to get nasty looks from people when I go shopping with my multi-racial nieces in an an African American Community? (Yep, I have gotten many looks from African American women, like I stole their man or something, which is not even the case). Fifth, Why should I have to tolerate two African American men coming upon me in a parking lot when my niece was having an out and out tantrum, and telling me that; "Let us take that little black girl home, we know how to raise her." Do you think discrimination only goes one way? Rather than perpetuating hatred, come to the table, reveal yourself, and engage in some intelligent conversation. Tell my why I am wrong, or right, change my mind, open my mind, whatever you are thinking without slingling derogatory generalizations. posted by

Hey anonymous...what do you think about that Black firefighter catching heat for being a part time rapper and singing about shooting cops? Do you think he owes cops an apology? Would you want him coming to your aid if you were a cop and needed back up from the fire dept.? For that matter, what about the rest of the black rappers singing about their b*%ches and ho's? Shooting, killing, selling dope, making money, prostituting women, etc. I may be from "white bread central" (love it), but if you dont see a double standard then you are BLIND. Don Imus apologized, lost his job etc....what more can he do? When are all the black rappers going to apologize and not be allowed to make thier music anymore? Poor anonymous.....ignorance is just sad. posted by
