The drawing for two annual tickets which allows the winner and one guest to attend as many movies as they want for the next year at the HITCHING POST THEATER was drawn by the movie manager and this year's winner is LESLIE MOLEZAHN!

Congratulations Leslie, and thank you to all who purchased tickets.  I'm sorry everyone didn't win the movie tickets, but know that you are all winners in our hearts for supporting the Tehachapi Humane Society.

We'll be drawing the winning ticket for the Annual Passes to the Hitching Post Theater at about 7:00 p.m. this evening.

If you haven't purchased your tickets yet, we will be selling what we have left in front of the theater from 6:00 p.m. until time for the drawing.

They sell for $1.00 for one ticket or six tickets for $5.00.

In reading the articles in the Bakersfield California today on overpopulation of cats and dogs I felt they were on target.  Tehachapi Humane Society strongly supports the spaying and neutering of companion animals and also works towards spaying and neutering its feral cat populace.  We feel spaying and neutering should play the largest role in solving the overpopulation problem NOT euthanizing the animals.

I do feel their articles were a little short on the locale.  The article sounded as if the problem exists only in Bakersfield, yet this is a county-wide problem when it comes to Kern County.  A comment was made at some point in the article that there could be 4,000 spay/neuter surgeries done per year.  I believe it should and could be more since Tehachapi Humane Society was instrumental in getting 864 animals spayed and neutered in 2007…if we can do that many, just think what could be done if the County and the veterinarians in Kern County truly worked on getting a low-cost spay/neuter program started.

As much as we appreciate the availability of Hope coming back into the picture with their much needed low-cost program, it’s very disheartening to think that as large of a county that Kern is, we have to go to Fresno County to get the much needed respite in costs for these surgeries.

Kern County as a whole (government, veterinarians, and residents alike) should be ashamed.  Tehachapi is a community that cares as shown by our figures and the continual support our organization receives from its citizens...perhaps the rest of Kern County needs to take a lesson on compassion from Tehachapi.
