Development in Cummings Valley

I've received tentative information regarding development on the Cummings Valley sod farms plus acreage along Banducci, south of the current Grimm Way farm land.

First, apparently Grimm Way has purchased some land west of Banducci, just off Pellisier.  It is rumor at the moment, but the rumor is coming from a pretty good source:  Grimm Way wants to construct several (7 to 10) 5,000 square foot  "green houses" and that will adhere to the current agricultural zoning so nothing can be done about it.  This is a huge advantage because watering outdoor vegetables takes more water than greenhouse vegetables.  Water from the Cummings Valley is very expensive.  I've seen some of these industrial sized green houses down near San Diego and  they look like industrial parks.  How ugly will that be?

Second, and this is no rumor but right from the lips of one of the sod farm owners:  he is actively looking to sell his land to developers out of Orange and Los Angeles Counties.  If that happens, we can look forward to a KB-like development on that land. A large developer like KB will sail through zoning obstacles with ease. I'm sure the Cummings Valley Protection Agency is still celebrating their victory over having Stallion Springs allow this area to be annexed into the community with CC&Rs that Stallion Springs would have some control over.

KB homes is what we may get because so many people bought into the distortions and down right lies distributed by the Cummings Valley Protection Agency. We could have gotten a development that was conducive to the area and added value to Stallion Springs - and guaranteed good water quality and improved/updated sewage treatment facilities.

I'll never understand these arguments:  1) we got land and built homes and we will now lobby so you can't get yours, 2) the purposed development will be larger then the current Stallion Springs. So what?  Other current surrounding areas are  larger: how has that effected Stallion Springs?  Exactly, it hasn't. 3)  who will buy a home in the "glare of prison lights."  Everyone think about how illogical this is.  How would that glare be any different or any less a disadvantage to 20 acre "agricultural" homesites?  That is so dumb on so many levels that I'll just let each reader decide which argument against this logic they like best.  4)  My favorite nonsensical reason for arguing against the sod farm owner's proposal .... those evil "godzillas" just want to get rich.  Honestly - that was a much tauted argument.

So, in that same light, we should all take the stand that  the President of the Cummings Valley Protective Agency, Chuck McCullough, has too much money and because of that, he should not be allowed to take over two years to get no-where on his winery near the corner of 202 and Cummings Valley Road.  How idiotic is that?  I do wonder how he will  get water up the hill from the valley aquifers - maybe the planting delay is because he has figured this will be a problem with only one, very expensive solution.  For many, many, many months now, what he has produced for our viewing pleasure is bare land with empty posts sticking up.  Not one green thing in sight.  Gee - thanks Chuckie.

ragmop -  You asked a question.  I answered it.  My neighbor is a FRIEND of McCullough's and helps out at the winery.   I don't know why they consider him a poor old man  - as his friends.  Why would I dig into what I thought was an insult of my neighbor's friend?

I encourage you - and anyone else with time on their hands - to work at bringing a winery to the corner of Cummings Valley Road and the 202.  This winery is Chuck's way of saying "boutique" farming can be accomplished in the valley.  He is very likely wrong.

I thank you again for correcting any of my spelling errors.

You may at any time address the subject and the points I have made.  Or, of course, you may continue to correct spelling errors.  I do it myself on occasion.  The spelling grievances here are usually so outrageous that I don't bother.  Since you obviously pay attention to such things,  you may agree with me - even if you won't want to align yourself with any of my opinions.

So, to bring this back around, my issue with The Cummings Valley Protection Agency, under the leadership of Chuck McCullough, is that they misled the residents of Stallion Springs regarding water availability in the valley.  They lied about the the members of the board and depicted the sod farms owners as greedy, irresponsible land owners.  It is my opinion that this misrepresentation will turn out poorly for everyone living in and around the Cummings Valley.  That would include me - so it is a pet peeve of mine.

Do you have a point regarding this?  How 'bout I agree that Chuck could be hard working? I don't know the man personally.  So, I'll give that one to you.  On subject,  I have spoken with LAFCO associates, Don Maben's office, our general manager, the CVPA, the Tehachapi Water District and countless others living and working in this area.  I have a point of view that has grown with each piece of information received.  Anything you can add, even spelling corrections, are welcome.

washburn posted:    "I would think that the individuals who refer to him as that "poor old man" should be asked why they consider him that way?  That is kinda insulting.  Is an old man automatically to be considered poor?  I think that's a terrible dicpiction."

Then she posted:   "As as aside:  a member of the CVPA, my neighbor, called him "a poor old man" in a conversation."

So my comment is:   washburn, you need to be asking your neighbor why they consider him as a 'poor old man' and why they insulted him in that way.   Nobody on this blog ever addressed Mr. McCullough as a 'poor old man'.

BTW.. as an ex-school teacher, if you are such a stickler for spelling.... try "depiction" instead of 'dicpiction'.

If if was your neighbor who called him a 'poor old man' then why do you refer to that on this blog?   FYI - I have personally observed Mr. McCullough in the flesh out working on his vineyard.   He probably does have help and people who support him.  Your neighbor obviously has some kind of problem with him..  why doesn't your neighbor blog for him/herself?

Ragmop - what brought you back here?  Did you need additional information regarding the Reagans?  OK then - yes, Ronald is dead and yes, Nancy wore a lot of red.

As as aside:  a member of the CVPA, my neighbor, called him "a poor old man" in a conversation.  You called him the hardest working man in Tehachapi.  WOW - slight exaggeration since he doesn't actually "work."   According to my neighbor, Chuck is not running the farm.  He has CVPA members volunteering work and has turned the whole mess over to his son(s).

washburn, please cite who referred to Mr. McCullough as a "poor old man" on this blog.  I looked back and saw absolutely no reference to him in this way.

Mondolin - what attack did you read?  There was information provided and a couple questions asked.  I re-read and didn't see an attack.

I would think that the individuals who refer to him as that "poor old man" should be asked why they consider him that way?  That is kinda insulting.  Is an old man automatically to be considered poor?  I think that's a terrible dicpiction.

Now, don't get confused, I was NOT the one who called Mr. McCullough a poor old man.

Since the First Ground Rule says "no...personal attacks,"  what are Washburn's comments if not a personal attack of Chuck McCollough?

TN Editor:  Sincerely waiting for that update correcting all the facts I have wrong.  Will that be soon?

P6, you need to listen to the other folks here & check your facts before posting. Clinton did not say what you claim, and a quick google search would have saved you some embarrassment.

"Summary: An Investors' Business Daily editorial falsely asserted that "Bill Clinton says we must slow the economy to save the earth." In fact, Clinton said in the January 30 speech to which the editorial referred that "rich" countries could take that approach, but then he stated why he thought it wouldn't work and asserted that the "only way" to fight global warming is to prove that doing so "is good economics."

I'm posting this more for the other folks who participate here, because I'm sure you're not interested in the truth. A lie can fly around the world before the truth ever gets its boots on.

Ok P6 you're obviously drinking the Reagan Kool Aid, so I won't take anything you have to write seriously.  What you wrote about Clinton letting Osama take power in Afghanistan is Historically incorrect and wrong.  Reagan's administration is THE REASON Osama Bin Laden is a hero in the radical Muslim world!  The Reagan Administration considered Osama Bin Laden a PATRIOT!  The Reagan Administration gave money and weapons, and training to Osama Bin Laden!  Do I really need to go on?  Osama Bin Laden didn't declare Jihad on the U.S. until the first Bush established Military Bases in Saudi Arabia.  Know your facts P6, NOT Propaganda!  By the way every presidential administration since world war 2 is responsible in one way or the other for the current state we're in, in regards to global terrorism.  I can write a 20 page dissertation on how Reagan's domestic policy ruined inner cities and was responsible for the rise in Gang Violence and Drug Trafficing.  You did hear about the Iran / Contra scandal didn't you P6?  If you understand that Scandal and it's effect on U.S. Policy Foreign and Domestic you would not be a Reagan fan I Guarantee YOU!

Reganism did nothing but make the rich richer and tax the middleclass!  He was one of the downfalls of society!  But not as bad as the Bushs'.....Jen, who are you really?  What is your "other, real name"?  You are just an alias!!!!

Outside of the Iran / Contra affair his negligence of our inner cities, ignoring the crack epidemic, ignoring the aids epidemic, letting our domestic economy go to the toilette, and having an approval rating in the 40th percentile in his last year in office, besides all of that, Reagan was an awesome president!!! We are still paying TODAY for Reagan's HORRIBLE domestic policy.  Everything from our war on drugs, to gang violence, to illegal immigration etc. can be traced back to the Reagan era.   (I love the re-imagining of history!)  The Reagan era was horrible, for the middle class, minorities, people with mental health problems, Vietnam Veterans, Farmers.... need I go on?  Oh yeah, this is a blog about vineyards....
