Deleteing Other People's Comment Because they don't Agree with Yours is Censorship
Dear Editor,
It is time to delete the "delete" button that allows bloggers  to remove comments on their post because they do not agree with your ideas.  It is freedom of speech to be able to post and read what other bloggers have to say.  Too many times someone will post a response to a question or comment, then it is removed by the blog owner.  If they don't want to hear what other people have to say, then they shouldn't blog their opinion and leave it open for discussion.  We already have monitoring by you to ensure our blogs and posts remain within the guidelines, so why do we need extra censorship?
Thank you,
Awsmom8

Wow! I am on a roll...3 blogs in 24 hours!

I've had quite a few of my comments deleted by sam, it gets really annoying. He's called me a bully for disagreeing with him, and almost always accuses me of personally attacking him. We both know that's not why he deletes comments, it's because he can't handle the fact that his elegant use of the English language doesn't mask the fact that he is wrong sometimes and that some of the views he has aren't acceptable in today's society. I'd be more than willing to show him what a "personal attack" is, but I really don't think that ornery old man is worth my time.

I totally agree.  The whole idea of this blogging is to post your blog and then get response.  If you don't want a response that will oppose your ideas, your stories, your "journaling" , maybe you're a little thin skinned and shouldn't share.  I, personally can form an opinion or maybe even change my own opinion by reading "the serious comments" that are made.

Such as....Radical Jim's feces tube dwelling post, I became quite upset that he would oppose homosexuality and that teaching children that, in some families there are two moms or two dads made me so mad.  I felt like he was being hateful and one-sided.  Then when the original blog came up on this SB 777, I felt like, crap, this is on the complete other side of the spectrum, doing away with "Mom and Dad?"  I was pissed.  Okay, acknowledge that that there are different kind of families, but please don't take the "traditional family" away from us who still have mom and dad.  And please don't put boys in the locker rooms with my girls.  I think it's the "extremes" that people want to take things, that send me reeling over the edge.

Did that make sense?

My comments have also been deleted by the almighty Sam. I to agree the owner of the blog should not have ability to deleted a post. I do think that I should be able to delete my own post.Sam has called me a bully to. Was I being a bully well....:) I was just reacting to SAM deleting comments from his blog. Sam reminds me of that kid when we where young , you know that kid that would call other kids names and get beat up for it  and then go tell on the other kids for beating him up. I don't read Sam's blogs. To me it is like reading blah blah blah.............What can I say,I went to public schools. What I like about blogging is all the different types of people it attracts, people from all walks of life. If we where all the same this would get boring, don't you think ?  Some of you make me think. Some of you make me laugh and some of you make mad. Do any of you offend me.....NO. Its a blog site. If you told me something mean to my face then I would be offended. When someone makes a comment to me on this blog site I don't take it personal, and if I did I wouldn't delete you I would just comment back.

I see no reason to do away with the delete button. Since I have been here, I have deleted one comment and once asked someone else to rethink her posting, and she deleted it after thinking about it. Other than that, the posts to my little blog have been truly remarkable to me.

I agree that the TN should remove the ability of bloggers to delete responses to their work. If you're not interested in comments, there's plenty of places to publish your work. If you give the ability to comment to blogs, Editor, you should make sure they remain. Only the author should be able to delete or edit their own posts, unless the vulgarity outweighs the merits of the post.

Dear editor, oochild is having a "reefer madness" fit. Please don't hold it against her that she is demanding mob rule! It is the secret reefer madness that has secretly overtaken her mind and secretly taken control. She is not responsible for what she is saying. I am pro delete button although I have only used it once. But, if someone drops a stinky, misshapen poop into my pristine, well ordered sandbox, then I want to have the right of Zeus to scoop it up and toss it out.

Dear Bloggers, the "point" of any blog is simply what it's creator and owner wishes it to be. That's why we let each blogger take ownership of their own blogs and the responses posted therein.  ;If someone offends you on your own blog, it's up to you to decide if you want to let it stand. It's that simple.

Personally, I agree that censoring those who disagree with your own highly held opinion demonstrates a lack of tolerance, at best. You all seem to have figured out that some bloggers favor this brand of censorship, so it should be simple enough to just avoid posting to that blog. Or create your own blog on the topic, if it inspires you so much. To be clear: A blog about the topic is acceptable, not a blog about how much you dislike that blogger or their character, tactics, etc.

We give a great amount of leeway here, and I would like to see more personal responsibility being taken in an attempt to keep it civil and honor the terms of service you all agreed to, including no personal attacks.

Any mature exchange of ideas is bound to create a gamut of emotional and hopefully, some well-intentioned feedback. If someone does not wish to participate in an exchange, take it for what it is: A monologue, a discourse or a lecture. In Journalism school,  this is affectionately called, Curmudgeon 101.
