It's Family Time!!!!!
How many of you went to the movies on Christmas Day? I have always boycotted the movies and other nonessential businesses on Christmas Day as I feel it is a day to enjoy family or stay at home and relish not going anywhere. By patronizing these businesses, it makes people have to go to work (most at $8.00 an hr) and miss one of the most important things in life--spending time visiting relatives and family. And I am not speaking from a religious point of view as I don't believe in organized religion. Why on earth would you go to the movies on Christmas Day?

People have different Christmas traditions, for some it may be going to a movie. I really don't see anything wrong with that. I spent many years working in a hospital and there were always more than enough people willing to sacrifice half of thier day to get holiday pay. Alot of people celebrate differently, some on Christmas eve etc for all you know the people working could just have plans for Christmas that didnt start until 4pm and wanted to work to make some extra cash in the morning. I never felt like I was missing one of the most important things in life by not arriving at the Christmas festivities until supper time. It's just the way it goes. I am sure no-one was working there against thier will. Realistically, there are alot of people that have to work crappy jobs Christmas day whether it be working at a movie, gas station, Jack in the Box, etc. For some people that do not have family close by, going to work is the best Christmas gift they get becuase instead of being at home alone they get to socialize and share the spirit of Christmas with others. Working on Christmas Day isn't always a bad thing for everybody. posted by

No offense Smokey but working at a hospital is a Little different from going to the movies. But yes there are many jobs out there that people have to work no matter what day it is. But most of them are not if the person chooses to. I've worked many jobs that it wasn't a "want to work for extra money" situation. But I do appreciate the ones who work on Christmas or any other big holiday whether they want to or not. The world can't stop for a holiday....but I don't see why someone needs to not spend their time with family if they wanted to so someone else can get a Jumbo Jack. Just my opinion. posted by

I don't know about movies but Christmas Eve and Christmas day are the best days of the year to go to an amusement park. Whenever we do go to one there are no lines so you get the most for your buck we are still going as a family so I have to agree with the others we all celebrate it differently. Maybe I will try the movies next year. posted by

Not everyone celebrates Christmas! Why should a Jewish employee be forced to take a day off if they want to work? Same for all the other non-Christian religions. Same for people who have no family and want to be around people. How is going to the movies on Christmas Day with the family not spending family time? Family time doesn't just exist at home on holidays. The theaters are usually less crowded and therefore more enjoyable, just like the amusement parks. posted by

Christmas and some do. I celebrate Christmas and believe that it's a special time to acknowledge Christ's birth, and time to spend with family. I know that I reflect on the past year and am very thankful for my family and friends. I get the "Christmas Blues" this time of year too. I don't know why, but I do. After the kids get up in the morning and open gifts, they stay busy playing, and then it begins to feel like any other day. I have to admit, I thought about going to the movies but wasn't sure if the theater was open! Shame on me. he he! And....I can't wait for the new year to be here so life will go back to normal again. bah hum bug. I've gotta whole bag of mixed emotions during the holidays just as I'm sure many of you do as well. Mad cow, I'm with you on the "phobia" about nasty, dirty places! My brother is a deputy in Lancaster...A few years back there was a rape that occurred in the Palmdale Movie theater. In their search for the suspect, the deputies sprayed Luminol (it's a chemical that makes bodily fluids glow in the dark) from the middle of theater to the back hoping to find the suspects sperm and match it to someone.... Well, to make the story short....after the lights went out, the whole theater lit up. I know...IT'S DISGUSTING! So, Remember to Take Your Lysol Wipes when going to your local theater. posted by

Didn't there used to be some kind of thing where nothing was open on Sundays? Blue something? I remember my mom telling me about it. I suppose they were religious people trying to enforce the day of rest, but they're gone now. That's kinda how I see a theater being open on Christmas- if that makes any sense. posted by
