BREAKING NEWS! MEN CHARGED IN TRAIN DEPOT FIRE!

The Kern County District Attorney’s Office has arraigned two Tehachapi men on felony and misdemeanor charges arising from the June 13 fire that left the historic Tehachapi railroad depot a smoking ruin.
Co-defendants Jason Watson, 31, and Brian O’Donnell, 36, appeared before
Judge John Oglesby at East Kern Superior Court in Mojave and both pleaded not guilty to one felony count of causing a structure fire and one misdemeanor count of using illegal fireworks.
They were taken in custody temporarily until they posted bail. O’Donnell’s
bail was set at $10,000. Watson’s bail was $20,500 for the fire-related
counts and $5,000 each for two unrelated probation matters, for a total of
$30,500.
They had not been in custody prior to the hearing.
“They surrendered to the court for arraignment,” said Deputy District
Attorney Ronald Taylor.
The maximum penalty for the felony count is three years in prison and six
months for the misdemeanor.
Watson and O’Donnell are represented by their own private attorneys, one
from Lancaster and the other from Los Angeles.
Taylor said the next court appearance for Watson and O’Donnell will be Aug.
20 for a pre- preliminary hearing, and two days later on Aug. 22 for the
preliminary hearing. At that time the judge will decide if the DA’s office
has enough evidence to hold the defendants for trial. A trial would proceed
within two months.

And these grown men are already on probation--looks like probation didn't work! Time to revoke it, wouldn't you think? Refraining from alcohol and illegal activities are usually a part of probation, something these 2 men snubbed their nose at!

I just looked under Kern County Superior Court and plugged in their names.  Seems one has a hx of spouse abuse, DUI , failure to appear etc and various other charges and has been in jail lots of time....

Finally, some PROGRESS.  Are these the same two guys who ADMITTED to using fireworks near the depot?  How can they plead NOT GUILTY???  And how did the judge arrive at $10k and $20k bail for allegedly causing a million dollars worth of damage?

Listen to Gube..........lolol     I say throw em in jail, heck they can't even be good while on probation.

Only one of them is on probation, Jason Watson--for spousal abuse, DUI (at least 3 in the past 10 yrs.)  He even had to have a breathalyzer installed in his vehicle.  I've seen him drunk--he's an idiot.  He was pressured by the Tehachapi Barney Fifes into admitting guilt because they gave him the idea he would only get a fine and a slap on the wrist, so it was self-preservation on his part.  The other one is more levelheaded.  He hasn't had a run-in with the law since he was a teenager doing stupid teenage boy stuff.  I don't believe this fire was started with fireworks--they were just too far away--not right by the tracks like the papers say (and probably Mr. Watson--he's just an idiot), but by Scotty's Auto Body.  I will not reveal how I've come by this knowledge.  But you can't believe everything you see in the papers.  Again, Mr. Watson's just a simpleton.

Walks like a duck.....remember that blog?  LOL!  But really, the chances of a conviction is nil.  Their attorney will show there were 2 fires a week before and blame it on spontanous combustion and rags and the men will walk.

I saw the report this morning on 23. Girlygirl must be an expert on how the fire started. lol, she doesn't like Watson much...the spouse maybe?  The official investigation states it was indeed fireworks which flew under the platform, started the fire which burned its way up through the floor. Bummer PD, there's goes your theory on the too small windows!

I hope you're wrong about no conviction Aws, but, sigh, it's more likely you're correct...

FINALLY! Joty funny you should say that about Girlygirl. I got the impression she had ties to O'Donnell and was trying to pin everything on Watson.

He was pressured by the Tehachapi Barney Fifes into admitting guilt because they gave him the idea he would only get a fine and a slap on the wrist, so it was self-preservation on his part.

Yes, but if your not guilty than why would you admit to anything?? Sorry, but this statement IMHO screams guilt. Self-preservation??? Why would you have that mentality if you were innocent?

Oh please girlygirl. It's a bit obvious that you have a personal interest in Brian Odonnell! He was drunk and shooting off illegal fireworks on a work night in the wee hours of the night. Shouldn't he have been home with his wife being the respectable citizen you allude to? This is his 5th time he has been arrested since he was a legal adult, look it up, yet you claim he was only a teenager then , and now he is, get this, "level headed" FOTFLOL! Half of our state was on fire with the governor pleading for people to stay away from fireworks (this is for those cities where the fireworks are legal in the first place), and these two guys do this to our depot. This, is not level headed, responsible or respectful of the citizens of this town. Brian and his buddy could have shot these fireworks in the direction of an inhabited home and possibly killed someone. Would you defend them if it were your home and make excuses for them then? And by the way, Scott's Auto Body is across the tracks , a stones throw from the depot, and absolutely within traveling range of their illegal fireworks. Perhaps you should be questioned further as to you whereabouts on the night of the fire? Was your information a first hand account or just a feeble attempt to cover for a dear friend?

Countrygirl, I agree. If Brian were innocent in the first place and him being so 'level headed', why would he admit guilt to something he didn't do?? This whole thing is a tragedy to our town. I hope these two pay even a small price for the huge price our town's history has paid for their idiocy.

Whatta jumping on Girlygirl for?  She's giving us more information about the defendants here than the Tehachapi News has in 3 weeks.  Gee - its a small town, she apparently knows them - is that meaningful?  Only if you like information unfiltered by the legend-keepers, I guess.  Maybe I like that more than some.  Thanks, Girlygirl.

And Joty, what official report are you talking about?  Is there more than one?  The one I read a few days ago at the KCFD website didn't say anything about the rocket entering under the floor...but that's fine - maybe it did.  That the depot burned makes me ill - and it won't make me feel better to join a cyber lynch-mob - does that work for you?
