Day off...
Does anyone know how to spend a "day off" around here? Besides vegging out and eating chocolate?
Any good day trip spots? Something where a lot of time isn't necessary, but you feel like you've been away for days?

I've been wanting to head up to Kernville and spend some time fishing - but  I just can't seem to find the right  outfit.

There's always train watching at the Loop!

GregL...I have a funny story for you....at least I thought it was.  Last weekend was my son's Mother's Day Camp-out for Cub Scouts.  They had it at a little camp ground with 3 lakes, a swimming hole, and the Colorado River running through it.  Well, on the other side of the river is a train track.  Being from Tehachapi I am use to hearing trains so it didn't occur to me until the train was almost gone.  But I jump up and yelled at my husband to get the camera.  From our tent we could see the trains and river etc.  I'm telling to hurry and he was all "What is it?"  "A train!" I said.  "I need to take picture for Greg!" I yelled.  He looks at me and said "Who the hell is Greg?  And why would you take a picture of a train?"  I explained to him but unfortunately we were too late.  But it was beautiful with the river running next to it and the Bookcliffs behind it.  But I will get a picture for you.  Or at least I'll try.  They won't be as good as yours, but I'll try.  My husband said we'll go back and do some fishing and I'll take some then.  And of course my husband ask me if I knew you from Tehachapi and I said no, I have never met him personally.  He just laughed and shook his head.

You guys are too funny!  LOL!

Great story Colitas!  Sounds like a beautiful scene, of course any scene with a train is a beautiful scene!  Thanks for trying, that's really nice.  Where is this camp?  I'd like to try to visit sometime.

Well, if you want to get OUT of town, there's always good train watching in Barstow or the desert between Barstow and Needles!!!  Along with a little cemetery...

I'd say go to Kernville and eat chocolate. Try some white water rafting while you are there. Better hurry though, the water level will drop soon and by by white water. By the way space, its the Sequoia National Forest near K-ville, not the Park.

GregL...it might a little out of your way.  It is called Island Acres in Palisade, Co (about 47 miles from the Utah border into Colorado) on I-70.  But like I said before, I'll try and get a good shot for ya though.  They normally have a photo gallery, but it's not up right now, maybe later it will be.

Red Rock Canyon off Hwy-14 and Kennedy Meadows in the Southern Sierra Nevada are a couple of close site seeing places. Have you toured NASA or the Museum at Edwards AFB? A day with a picnic lunch is great in Mountain Park, too.
