I support the new hospital
Thank you Mr Hicks for taking on a job of this magnitude. I am a supporter of the Hospital and urge every one to support your local Hospital. For as long as i have lived here there has always a group here or a group there that complains about the way the Hospital is ran. For the most part i do believe that the majority of Tehachapians support the Hospital and the building of a new Hospital.I have to say that one of my concerns has always been what appeared to be the lack of leadership with the new Hospital project. The appointment of the project manager is what was needed to keep this project moving. Another concern was the lack of information regarding the progress of the project. I attended the TVHD meeting and was impressed with the the information that was given out to the public. Mr Hick did his homework and was prepared. If i could offer some advise it would be to be forth coming with information and to keep us advised of the progress of the project 7 comments from 4 users

I'm not angry about this project. I'm irritated by some of the commentary on it. Like the blog started by the CEO where he placed a halo over his head and then left without comment. And by the repeated statements that "everyone" knew that $15M wasn't enough to build the hospital. It certainly wasn't known by "everyone" when the vote was made. FYI, I voted in favor of the bond issue, because I was told it was enough to replace the hospital. Apparently I was lied to - or so the new leadership says. That may be true - I've been lied to in the past! Is there something special about 24 beds, Olivia? Does that trigger funding support? A "rural hospital" can't be 16 beds, or 8?

ProgressoDasani i never even used the words CEO. When i said lack of leadership i was referring to not only the past CEO and Board members I was also talking about the current leadership. I am not applying that neither where not doing their job. A project manager should have been appointed a long time ago. One person that is responsible to keep the project on track and to inform the public of its progress. Until now this project never had that. You seem very unhappy and angry about this project. If this hospital was built tomorrow you would still not be happy. Why the sour grapes? What Awsmom commented about a stabilizing center is basically what the new hospital will be. Awsmom is correct that Tehachapi is not big enough to support the specialist that a hospital in a bigger area would. If you get transported to Tehachapi hospital they will stabilize you and if needed they will transport you to a hospital that has the specialists.ProgressoDasani if you where at the board meeting you would have heard that a second bond measure is only one of many options. posted by

Sure, Bigdog - when you say the former CEO had a "lack of leadership", and provided little information, you say its an "observation". I say its a "slam". I don't doubt what Ray Hino would think it was. I also don't doubt that $15M isn't enough to build what is planned. What we need, as awsmom8 points out may be different than what they (the former, lack-of-leadership board, please note) planned. Olivia, what we have now is seismically unsound - that's what drove us to new construction, not some new imagined needs, and that new construction seems no closer now than it was 4 years ago. But, if we want to move forward, let the board put up a bond issue for another $15M. It may pass - or not. At least it would focus the discussion. posted by

Every hospital-related post that complains of this or that "negative" group always includes a slam of a former board or leaders - just like this one does! This time, we are reminded of a "lack of leadership" and a "lack of information", which is laid - of course! - at the feet of some previous and since-dismissed leadership, and assured that this time, all is well, leadership is in good hands, and that only a few malcontents and other socially irresponsible individuals who can be easily dismissed stand in the way of the wonderful hospital in our future. bigdog, your words are the same ones used to describe the last change in hospital leadership, the one that took a failed hospital plan from its predecessor and hired an engaging CEO who quickly won the praise and support of the community and who culminated his career here by winning landslide support for a $15M bond issue to build a new hospital. Now, you're telling us that the we have a new board and a new leader who is going to save a failing hospital plan. Excuse me, but it sounds like Sue Ellen assuring us that J.R. has changed, and that show got tired decades ago. As for evidence of community support, I'll take that bond passage as a better measure than your statement of belief. That was support that put its money where its mouth was. It is the community that has been let down by the delays, followed by delay, and finally resulting in a plan we can't afford. So how much closer are we to a hospital than we were 4 years ago? Apparently not much. posted by

I hope Mr Hicks takes heed of this comment. Being an engineer, it ought to be simple for him to devise an outline of phases of construction that could be kept up to date, and verifible, in the local press. There is a minority, but vocal and made up of long time and influencial citizens, who have their fingers crossed that the facility will be built. There has been no interest paid to public information released by the hospital/board for the last 13 months regarding the building project. The December board meeting did affirm what has been old news, in some cases, for more than a year. Please!! Don't let this happen again.
