I LOST 115 POUNDS IN 6 MONTHS WITH NO EXERCISE, PILLS OR SURGERY
NEW START
In May 2006, I made the decision to contact Dr. Kerendian’s office for starting the Optifast program. I knew Optifast is a very good program from prior experience. In the early 1980’s I was over 400 pounds (I worked for Weber’s bread and Dolly Madison and I ate well).  I heard of a program called Optifast which was a rapid weight loss program that would be under a physicians care. I contacted Gallatin Medical Center in Downey California, which at that time offered the program. I began the Optifast program and I lost over 200 pounds and was able to maintain a healthy weight until recently. Optifast not only provided away to lose weight, but also educated the participants on healthy eating and exercise.  I was able to go on with my life with a career in Law enforcement for nearly 20 years.
In 2004 I was injured in an accident at work and had one operation which had failed. I began to slowly gain weight. This was due to my inactivity and the beginning of unhealthy eating habits once again. Throughout the following several years I again began to gain weight as I had in the 1980’s. In April 2006 I was diagnosed with Hypertensive heart disease, four bulging discs in my lower back, both knees torn meniscus and obesity. I weighed in at 330 pounds my blood pressure was 160/110. I would get shaky and light headed craving sugar. I was not feeling good physically or mentally, since I seen myself once again where was I before overweight and very unhealthy. I was FAT. I was in a life threatening situation. I had tried many different programs over the last year attempting to lose weight. I used over the counter weight loss pills, pills to bind the fat, pills to block carbohydrates, pills to speed up my metabolism. I considered bariatric surgery and decided that was not for me.  I remembered Optifast was the only solution that had worked before.
I went on the internet and discovered Delight Medical. Delight Medical was located in Beverly Hills California and one day a week Thursdays in Bakersfield. I live in the Tehachapi Mountains approximately 1 hour drive away from Bakersfield. I pondered the thought for several hours on a Thursday. I began to reason away why I could wait another week or month. But then it hit me. I was playing with my life. I was no different then someone on drugs or alcohol reasoning away why they do not need help at that time in their life. I needed an intervention.  I called Delight Medical and made that appointment. In my first visit with the staff and Dr. Kerendian, I knew I was going to over come lose the weight and once again keep it off.  I was willing to commit myself to this program which provided me a very healthy way to lose weight and reeducate my life to healthy living. I enjoyed my weekly visits to the office the other participants as well as the staff were very encouraging to me.
In November 2006 I lost over 100 pounds and now I have my life back. In my birthday suit I weigh in at 215 pounds. My goal is to weigh 215-220 pounds firming up with exercise over time as I reintegrate back to a normal lifestyle. I have so much more energy. In fact when you start Optifast you will notice your energy level increases amazingly right from the start. I have dropped from size 3x large shirts to large and 48 inch waist pants down to 34 inches in the waist. I feel better since I am eating more nutritious foods. I am not wearing down the furniture at home or else where. It is easier just to put my shoes on, get in or out of a car and just to walk around a store. I am no longer out of breath as I was before in short walks. I don’t feel my heart pounding as it did before. My cholesterol is great. My blood pressure has been normal. I no longer get shaky or lightheaded from not eating sugar.  It is easier for me to stand up with the disability in my knees and back.  My activity is still limited due to my knees and lower back but I am able to cope much easier now and I will now get more miles out of them. My stamina has increased greatly just ask my wife. I am now able to catch my wife around the house much easier, this has been a great benefit to our marriage. I hope my losing the weight also encourages others as their dedication has encouraged me. I have not even had a fast food meal and I do not feel deprived I feel victory. Optifast gives you a fresh start with life. I have added years to my life and to my family. I know I will never gain the weight back again with discipline and the knowledge I leaned from Optifast to maintain a healthy vibrant lifestyle. I feel not only accountable to myself and family but also to Dr. Kerendian and his staff for their encouragement, dedication, never once did they miss a day driving all the way from Los Angeles so others may achieve their goals for a healthier life. I am always asked how did I do it lose the weight. I direct them to the Optifast program and tell them now is the time for a healthier life. The choice is ours.
Thank you,

Serving Those Who Serve Us Part II

My son inlaw Fortune Steele a United States Marine deployed to Baghdad, Iraq near the north east area of the city on 01-13-2008. Fortune is the proud father of my granddaughter Scarlett just 5 months old and husband to my daughter Heather.

My son Matthew United States Army 10Th, Mountain Division, is still serving in the south east part of Baghdad, Iraq until spring 2009. I thank everyone who has supported the troops through prayer and deed. I am going to post both my sons addresses once again. Matthew said he has been able to share with many others soldiers cards, puzzles and goodies. Anything from home lifts their spirits. Remember both of these young men and other Tehachapians choosing during war time to serve our nation and community.

Maybe you know another soldier and need direction here below is just one of many websites that's are very informational. "ANY SOLDIER" is great they let you know for free what they need, how to package and send items. I use US Postal Flat Rate Domestic and International boxes. The Boxes are FREE from post office along with labels, custom forms. The price to ship is FLAT RATE around 9 bucks a box and I havent been able to exceed the weight. If ya don't want to hassle shopping or know of someone else "ANY SOLDIER" website also has a donate and send package programs. I know of many websites who will for free ship items to troops. Just GOGGLE "troops free stuff". One lady i found bakes cookies and ships them for free. She has done this for both Gulf wars and has baked herself over 790,000 cookies. The Cookie Lady CookieLady@TreatTheTroops.org  My son Matthew received one dozen choclatechip cookies free. WOW

God bless your son and son-in-law for their service to our country.   In case someone was interested in sending things to them, what kind of items do they need or want (besides cookies! lol)    I know you said "anything from home" is appreciated   but please mention some specifics that you know they can use, enjoy and share with their buddies.  Thank you.

HELLO to all I am going to list one link that provides information on what a soldier in the field could use. If you do go online looking for a company to send a care package just be careful using discretion. As with any need there are those who attempt to exploit a good cause, so discretion is best.  Manytimes just a letter will lift that soldier more then you know, thanking them and the others for stepping up to the plate when a country called for volunteers.

BIG SAVINGS IF YOU WANT TO SEND ANY ONE ANYWHERE A PACKAGE USE THE US POSTAL FLAT RATE BOXES.  The boxes are FREE at the post office with labels. The cost anywhere is only in a FLAT RATE INTERNATIONAL DOMESTIC MARKED BOX is only around 9 dollars. I stuffed on once and the couldnt believe how much weight I got inside this box. FLAT RATE 9 BUCKS to send.

This link below has basic information on the needs a soldier can utilize.

What To Send In A Care Package

http://www.equipped.com/dep...

I have solicited input from service members I know and what follows is a consolidated and annotated list from those who have "been there and done that." (Thanks to all who contributed to this list.) This is hardly an all encompassing list and at the end is a link to larger lists, but this list is field tested and will "win huge" for anyone who sends from it. (Some needs change over time and this list will be updated as we receive updated suggestions from our sources.)

Family members will probably have some other items that they know their loved one will like. One of my contributors explained that, "being in the field is kind of like being in prison in that bargaining items are extremely important. If you have what others want, you will be able to get what you need. The list provided will ensure that even if the military member doesn't like all the items, they will want for nothing. If this stuff was sent to a "new guy" in the unit who had few friends...he or she would suddenly discover more friends than he ever knew he had."

  • Baby Wipes - packets are better than tubs. Much better than baby wipes, per se, are the "Hoo Ahhs" brand of pre-moistened, alcohol-free, unscented Field Towels
  • Beef Jerky/Slim Jims
  • Energy Bars (Power Bar, etc. - Unless a specific brand is requested, much better than standard civilian energy bars are the "HOOAH!" brand energy bar based on the U.S. military's own specially formulated bar that better meets the soliers' needs)
  • Hot Sauce (Tabasco, Red Devil, etc.) - wrap glass bottle in duct tape and place in doubled zip-lock bags
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Peanuts
  • Seasoning Salt (Lawry's, etc.)
  • Atomic Fireballs / Jolly Rancher hard candy (for service member use)
  • Smarties or SweetTart candies (for local children who prefer sour style candy to build relationships with community)
  • Powdered Energy/Electrolyte Replacement Drink Mix (Gatorade, etc.)
  • Chewing Gum
  • Avon Skin So Soft - great for removing face paint and also reputed to be an effective bug repellant (the latter seems variable based on personal experience and reports)
  • AA-cell Alkaline Batteries
  • Personal Hygiene Gear: Disposable Razors, Toothbrush and Tooth Paste
  • Eye Wash / Drops (Visine, etc.) for flushing dust and sand out of the eyes
  • Zip-Lock style Plastic Storage Bags - assorted sizes, heavier freezer style are better
  • Copenhagen Snuff in a tin ("Even if the service member doesn't dip snuff, they will be a hero and have more power than the Commanding Officer if they have a 'log' (10 cans) of 'Hagen.' A large percentage of infantry use this stuff and it is hard to get. The stuff they do get comes in a plastic can and tastes terrible. The 'Stateside Hagen' is the most powerful bargaining tool in a field environment!")
  • Pre-paid Phone Card so service member can call home
Veterans of Foreign Wars operates Operation Uplink which sends free prepaid phone cards to service members. On the Operation Uplink site you can request a card for a specific service member or make a donation to help support this service.

This site below is good for informational or if you just want to support any soldier anywhere.
