Calling all Cooks!
I have been wanting to learn how to cook and I'm wondering if there's anyone here in Tehachapi that would be willing to hold a cooking class? Anyone else interested in learning?

Keep the adult classes coming!
I would like to become certified as an EMT, but  work during the day and
don't have time to leave town to attend school.  Does anyone offer
medical courses here in Tehachapi?  I know there are courses in medical
terminology.  I'm sure there are other people out there that would like to train
in the medical field.  Is the fire department qualified to teach?  Maybe the
hospital has qualified staff who can offer  courses.
I think it would be really nice to have adult school here in Tehachapi held evenings or Saturdays.
I hope to see a variety of classes such as theater/acting,  music, pottery,
cooking/baking etc...
I've noticed that there are special events for Seniors, and I'm a bit envious.
What about whale watching trips for families...exercise classes early morning or evening hours for those of us that can't make it at 10:00am?
It  should be affordable so everyone can participate.  What do you think?

I don't know about any EMT courses, but I'd like to see adult/community classes too.  Pottery and cooking sound really fun!  And maybe some academic classes would be nice too- I miss college sometimes... ok, well I don't miss college, but I miss learning things ;)

I think you have some good ideas there! I hope these will come to pass.

There are many on-line classes offered through the Bakersfield College and Cerro Cosa College website I was able to take many of my academic classes that way which minimizes my drive down the hill to attend them. Some classes are impossible to take on-line but each semester they get more and more I looked at the site and saw quite a few health related classes on the Cerro Cosa site you might want to check it out http://cconline.cerrocoso.e... I hope this link works for you. Good luck and I would love to see some fun classes up here I have always wanted to try pottery.

We have an opportunity to have classes if the council would work for the Capital Hills site.  We don't have that opportunity with Curry & Valley, the shopping center site.  Your council is listening to a stacked deck in favor of Valley & Curry and NOT taking into account the wishes of ALL the people of Tehachapi which is their legal responsibility.

Demand more workshops regarding the two sites so that you can have a voice before the council.

E-mail Mayor Grimes egrimes1@bak.rr.com and Council Member Linda Vernon linda@bakersfieldrealtor.com and Jason Caudle at jcaudle@tehachapicityhall.com .  Demand more workshops BEFORE a decision is made on where the new Civic Center and City Hall are to be located.

NOTE:  The Capital Hills site will cost the city (YOU the taxpayer)nothing out of pocket to build.  The city will lease the property for 30 years with a $1.00 buyout at the end.  This is very similar to a 30 year mortgage on a home, where the builder builds the home.

Valley and Curry (Empire Builders aka the Shopping Center) needs the city (YOU the taxpayer) to pay all the building costs either out-of-pocket, or arrange financing or float bonds which will cause YOUR property taxes to go up.

In summary we (the taxpayers) need a new sewer and water system.  Wouldn't you rather the city invest in this system with the excess cash on hand, than spend it on a Shopping Center site that is landlocked and where the City Hall will have to be moved within at least 10 years if our present pace of growth continues?

Our City Council has already made a foolish $3 Million decision to waste taxpayer money on a fire department that was not fully researched and planned.  They hired a consultant after the fact who determined that the City should not have spent this money.

Don't you think it would be wise to hire a consultant or at the minimum have more public workshops so that the public can be heard BEFORE spending $15 to $20 Million on a new City Hall and Civic Center?

Please e-mail me at Stan4U@StanStanding4U.com and e-mail Mayor Grimes, Council Member Vernon and Jason Caudle to state your views before you are ignored.

Best regards,

Stan Beckham

Council Member

You can get your BLS/CPR certification through the hospital. (unsure of the cost)  Call the hospital and ask to speak to Gayle.  You can also call the hospital for CNA training, they will help get you in contact with the Kern County ROP program.  If you become a hospital guild member, you could "possibly" get a position at the hospital, and if you make an impression on someone, possibly find a job through that door.  I've known some who have done it.

There is a new "pottery store" located in the Albertson's Shopping Center, they probably offer classes.  I know they were having arobic classes at the "West Park" building, from (I believe) 5-6pm.  Not sure if that is still happening.  Just keep your eye scanning the "Tehachapi Newspaper" and they are announce different classes and groups that are forming.

Several years ago I took a EMT class through Cerro Cosa College. I had to drive to the Borax plant in Boron 2 times a week for like 4 months. The class was held at the borax plant because the guy who taught the class worked out there as the safety officer.

What a great idea! Not only a great chance for people to improve their skills, whether it be at a hobby like pottery or an educational class, but also a great way to bring the community together. It's always great to meet people that have the same pastimes/interests.

Looks like packerfan has the right idea here.

There is a class that meets an evening a week and Saturdays in Bakersfield.  It's the company that trains the fire departments and anyone can sign up.  I have seen a class offered through Cerro Coso, also.  I don't know of any class in Tehachapi.

Wow!  Thank you everyone for the feedback...I'm a little overwhelmed with the issues concerning our City, and would like to
know more.  I would like to be informed so I have the confidence to attend meetings and make a stand for the citizens
in Tehachapi.  I am certified in Cpr/first aid and have some basic nursing and occupational Therapy  experience.  My job requires that I have some medical knowledge.
I'm interested in the EMT course because I'd like to work in the Hospital E.R.
I know there is a new Hospital in the works, and it would be nice to have medical training available right here where we live.
I don't have the time or the gas money to travel out of town.  Some medical training can be done online, but you must have hands on training also.
I'm interested in taking educational and extra curricular classes where we can interact with one another, and it sounds like
most of you are interested in that too.  I'm going to get started by e mailing our Mayor .
