Calling all Cooks!
I have been wanting to learn how to cook and I'm wondering if there's anyone here in Tehachapi that would be willing to hold a cooking class? Anyone else interested in learning?

bunee - > Calling all Cooks! -> What's offensive about "Merry Christmas?"
What's offensive about "Merry Christmas?"
I was listening to the radio this morning when the two DJ's began saying, "Merry
Christmas" to the listeners.  People started calling in complaining that they were offended after hearing the phrase, "Merry Christmas".  The two people that claimed
to be offended also claimed to be "Christian".
I thought to myself, " what kind of Christian would call up and make a big deal about
wishing everyone a Merry Christmas?"
We live in America...  We have the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion....So, if I want to say "Merry Christmas", that is my right.
I believe that Christmas is  the celebration of Christ's birth and that is what I like
to focus on during the holiday season.
I don't take offense to "Happy Hanukkah", or Kwanzaa....or ...?
So, what's offensive about "Merry Christmas?"

Hey bunee, don't knock working on Christmas.  When I was in an emergency services job I requested Christmas because I enjoyed the extra pay.  There were more drunks to deal with and it seemed like every other person was having an emotional breakdown, but I liked the bigger paycheck and somebody's family always brought in plates of goodies to munch.  I don't mind clerks and salespeople wishing me a Merry Christmas because I know they are often required to do so.  I rarely hear them anyway because I try to avoid any shopping from Thanksgiving Eve until three days after Christmas.  I don't like the crush.

Hey this kinda went religious so I have a question?  In lay-mans terms, not the dictionary, just everyday people definition, what exactly is a Presbyterian?  What is the difference with other religions?  I myself am agnostic, but my son was invited by a friend to go to his church.  Now I will go with him at first, I am a bit protective, but I need to know what to expect.  I was raised and baptized Catholic, not my cup of tea.  I want my son to believe in whatever is good for him.  He even went to Good Shepard Preschool in Teh, so I am not against him learning.  But I do have to say Good Shepard are good people no matter what your beliefs are.  And my son does question a lot.  So can someone give me definition?  I get really confused with all the different branches out there!

So I got offended when people were calling Thanksgiving..."Turkey Day"  its Thanksgiving for God's sake...A time to give thanks, Turkey is only a symbol of the day....

Thanksgiving was first celebrated by the Pilgrims and Native Americans in colonial New England in the early 17th century. Its actual origin, however, probably traces to harvest festivals that have been traditional in many parts of the world since ancient times. It also has roots in the Puritan custom of designating special days of thanksgiving to express gratitude for God’s blessings, although these were strictly religious and bore only a passing resemblance to modern Thanksgiving celebrations. After the Civil War, Congress established Thanksgiving as a national holiday, but widespread national observance caught on only gradually. TURKEY DAY...GEEEZ

Olivia, I am a very tolerant person, and I dont think I am judgemental, some people just dont like the facts that I give them, and are in denial, anyway, this Blog is about People being offended by Christmas, Sparks said, " I shouldn't have to say In God I Trust or mention God in the pledge of allegiance"., I was just pointing out no one is saying she has to say those things, I happen to have alot of respect for Sparks view and think she is intelligent, even if we may dissagree on alot of topics, she knows her stuff, like oohchild.

Some people on this blog thinks that Christians are the bad ones......No! Just because a person calls him self a Christian doesn't  mean he's not a piece of crap with eyeballs. All to often i see people think they have a free pass because they call them self a Christian. Some of the most judgmental critical a$$ hole people i know and work with call them self's Christian's. Its one thing to go to church once a week and act godly But to be godly while at home with the family or at work is the real challenge. I believe god loves me and that he allows me to be human and make mistakes(I make a lot). But i wont go as far as calling myself a Christian Because I believe it takes more to be a Christian then going to church and calling myself one. action not words. If God isn't judgmental then why are you? Reread your posts and ask your self would Jesus have written that.?If you represent Christianity DON'T cheapen it !

If you ever really read anything Sparks has to say, she never whines about Christian Values or Traditions.  She simply states that she does not think its fair for her to have to say God in the pledge of allegience or in God we trust.  She has never put down Christian traditions.  In fact she states that she participates with friends.  Sparks does not seem to me to be a judgemental soul.  And whether or not she believes in God, The God "I" believe in still loves her.  Whose to say that someday something will happen in her life and she will suddenly be aware that God does exist.  Everyone is on their own path.  Beliefs, feelings change everyday for people.  Who knows Starbucks, one day you may wake up and start feeling a little more tolerance and less judgemental of those who disagree with you and don't have the same value or beliefs that you have.  Miracles happen everyday.  I'll be the first to say that "boy, sometimes I can come across as harsh and mean".  But that's not trully what is in my heart.  Those are the times that my mouth is running faster than my heart.

Great Idea Bunee,I have participated in food givaways to people here in town during the holidays with my church, some people on this blog think Christians are the bad ones, but we know better, Sparks, no one is forcing you to say In God I Trust or mention God in the pledge of allegiance,if you don't want to say it, then don't. that's not what this blog is about. almost everyone on this blog Celebrates Christmas and has some Christian values, we are the majority, and maybe were a little tired of rolling over all the time because someone says anything to do with Christmas is offensive. This is America, these are our traditions, you can believe what ever you want, but don't whine about our traditions and force us to change them. I find that offensive, and so do alot of other people,

Hey guys...speaking of getting involved in charities and staying positive, why don't you come and help out on Saturday?
Mountain Bible is hittin the streets with food items for  people here in Tehachapi who need some help.  If you'de like to focus on reaching out right here in your own community, here's some reality for you. Come to the church.  If you know of anyone who needs help, please let me know.
I'll be there on Saturday 9:30am.  Hope to see you there.

I'm an Atheist and I don't mind people saying Merry Christmas at all.  I think we should embrace all people and all beliefs.   I don't celebrate Christmas and I did work on Christmas (before I became retired) to give those who did believe in Christ the day off.  I enjoy the holidays a very lot and will celebrate many different religious ceremonies with other people during this time of year.   People should be able to believe and say whatever they want...that is what freedom is all about.  I do want to mention that I do not think it is fair for me to HAVE to say I believe in God when I don't.  I shouldn't have to say In God I Trust or mention God in the pledge of allegiance.  What's fair is fair.  Bottom line.... Believe in what you want, and say what you believe. To heck with everyone who thinks they have a right to control others.  I will live the way I want and say what I want always...I will also fight for my right to do so.  These people who get mad simply because other people have different beliefs than they do are morons. lol  PERIOD

That being said...

Merry Christmas EVERYONE!!!

I can't imagine how you know what we are, or are not, doing. Being on this site, even for an hour, doesn't take into account what one does for the other 23 hours of the day. Just as I would never suppose that what you do here is the sum total of who you are.

Some of us don't just talk about positive solutions, we actively work toward them. Through charity giving, volunteering and better living.

justcurious and smokey if you can see so well then why are you also posting on this site.shouldn't you be out doing something more POSITIVE? Maybe i was the bait and you just got caught yourself. lol

I agree completely justcurious. People are so blind to the real issues in the world that they should be focused on and are so easily baited.

And what is being focused on positive solutions going to accomplish ? We can all sit here all day long and talk positive and at the end of the day nothing would have changed. Wake up and get with reality.
