"Normal" kind of changes with the times... Normal is what society as a whole decides it is. For instance a woman wanting to work and vote is no longer strange... it's normal behavior for a woman to want to be strong and independent today. Lucky us,, because being burnt at the stake was a normal reaction to strong or defiant women in the past. Gays are now normal to mainstream society, well with the exception of some conservative Christians, but in time gays will be accepted by us all, as were strong women before them. I can tell you what is not normal or accepted behavior by society and never should be again... violence to yourself or others. Unlike in times past we have become more civilized and educated, and we no longer have gladiators who fight to the death for our amusement, nor do we kill brothers, sisters, women and children simply because we can or are told to. Simply put: In a professional sense, normal is what the majority of society decides it is, which includes EVERYONE except people with severe mental orders such as schizophrenia.. YET, personally, what you find to be normal or abnormal may be different than what society as a whole does. If you not familiar with certain people or cultures you may very well think of them as abnormal. As for mental disorders... yep a lot of crazies out there. I am one of the lucky few who doesn't need meds, but as you pointed out a lot of people take meds. I would say at least one out of every 4 people I know are on meds. I have had moments of craziness as I think most of us have. I would say......As long as you don't act crazy in public... you will be OK... lol posted by

I agree with what sparks wrote. If I may break it down a little bit. To me, Normal, like love, is in the eye of the beholder. What is normal to one person may not be normal to another. And what a boring place this would be if it was. Normal to me could be defined as the blessed absence of abnormality. What is abnormal depends on the individual, and the laws governing your behavior where ever you may be. Did you know that if you get pulled over in Germany for a traffic ticket, you pay the police man right then for the infraction. To me, that's not normal, even borderline crazy. To the German people it is very normal. So one could say normal not only changes from person to person, but from place to place. People have accused me of being abnormal, in a good way. Watch any comedy show I am in and you to will say "oh this guy is not normal!" posted by

98.6 is normal - so I guess I am abnormal because I always run about 99. I say we delete the word from the dictionary... posted by
