Civics 101
After attending several meetings of the Tehachapi City Council I am wondering if Council member Beckham ever took any classes in government. He appears to be mostly uninformed and get his lessons in Tehachapi government during the meetings. One would think that a member of the City Council would take a little effort and become familiar with the issues prior to meetings. Not so with Mr. Beckham. I read in the agenda that the City Council meetings follow Roberts Rules of Order. Apparently that does not apply to Mr. Beckham. He repeatedly interrupts other Council members as they are speaking. Not only is this contrary to Roberts Rules of Order, it is just plain rude. Perhaps Mr. Beckham can enrol in Civics 101 and learn just how a government is supposed to work. And maybe the City can see fit to buy Mr. Beckham a copy of Roberts Rules of Order.

While I do not condone interrupting people..I am willing to cut Mr. Beckham some slack in the other areas. He's learning how things are done. Give the guy a break he's just getting his feet wet. It's not like he's been doing this for 20+ years like some people! FYI-plain posted by

I will have to disagree with you. Mr. Beckham's self agrandizing behavior is an embarassment to the citizens ot this city. After almost eight monhs as a member of the council, one would think that some glimmer of a clue would surface and that Mr. Beckham would understand the workings of government that her is a part of. Perhaps if countygirl attended some of the meetings shemay see for herself. As far as the twenty plus years of "some people", the voters can fix that if they are dissatisfied with the performance of that council member. Judging by the fact taht they have been serving for twenty years speaks well of their performance.

I will have to disagree with you......... Funny I had a feeling you would. Let's talk about an embarrassment to the city shall we! How about the fact that this council is "hand fed" by a certain city employee. That after several VERY bad calls( that have cost us millions of dollars) they still look to him for EVERYTHING. The times I have been to council meetings(Don't act so shocked! lol) I have been witness to many a confused council persons. Often times it is the public having to "set the record straight". You don't find it slightly disturbing that a council was willing to spend MILLIONS in taxpayers dollars on a "pet project" that they were clueless about and obviously didn't even care to inform themselves about. I can't tell you how many times our questions were met with blank stares and silence. Embarrassing! The truth of the matter is IMO (strangely I think you'll disagree with me again...just a hunch) our council is just for show. There is only one person running this city and making decisions for them and he needs to go! BTW your puppy is to cute! posted by

Mr. Beckman gets his marching orders from a few bloggers! Give him a break! he came in as if he was the all knowing, everyone on the council were wrong, he is the savior to the bloggers. It shows that he is not prepared, and not well uniformed . He has to first talk with a few bloggers to what THEY want, not what is good for ALL. This is my opinion, posted by

Mr. J, oops! I mean Mr. A. While it may be true that many of the bloggers rallied to get Mr. Beckham elected his relationship with the blogging world ended there. Mr. Beckham stands up for what the majority of city residents want and in doing so is the only one properly doing his job! There have been times that I have not agreed with some of Mr. Beckham's decisions, but as a whole I am happy with what he has brought to the table......change. He is willing to voice the concerns that the people have( maybe not in the most eloquent way but at least we have a voice) and in doing so is scoffed at by other council members. Why......because instead of just breezing through everything they actually have to think about what they are doing and make some changes. We all know how receptive they are to chance!

Ms.G.oops Ms.C, your opinion is notet, however erronious is is. I have been following the blogs of the KCFD bloggers for some time and they seem to have an agenda of ousting the current council members ever since the City tried to start their own fire department. You and your group are as transparent as glass.

Hang in there countygirl. If anyone is blind it is cajones. Obviously he agrees with the Civics 101 lesson we observed last night where Mayor Grimes lost complete control of the meeting and Holly Hart made a mockery of our City Council meeting. Does cajones agree that part of Civics 101 is allowing one public servant to spew forth unfounded lies about another? That is not what I learned in college. I also did not learn that the City Manager should lead the City Council 4 by the nose because the City Council 4 is incapable of doing their civic duty. I learned that the content of what an elected official does is more important than the form they use, particulary in following Roberts' Rules of Order to the letter.
