1/28/08 - Chihuahua/Dachshund mix, intact male, chocolate/tan color, about 10 pounds, found near KB homes.  No microchip and no collar, but he probably had one recently, as he has a collar mark on the fur around his neck.  If this is your dog, call Katherin at 822-0541.  If not claimed in a few days he may need a foster home.

A very handsome and sweet St. Bernard puppy (8 months old) needs a new home.  Unfortunately, he was a bit much for his owners to handle in their new home with white carpet and a smaller yard in town.  Stitch is a loving boy with good house manners, is housebroken, and is used to being indoors with his family.  He has all his shots except for rabies.  If you are able to give Stitch a forever home, please call Canine Creek at 822-0307.  We will put you in touch with his new foster mom.

According to Tuesday's AV Press, a puppy mill ranch in Antelope Acres was shut down yesterday, and approximately 400 animals were rescued.  They are in dire need of assistance -- food, shelter, supplies, vet care and permanent homes.  Please see the link to the story below for more information, and ways you can get involved to help these poor animals!

Save Tehachapi's Orphaned Pets (also known as "STOP") is a new non-profit organization founded in January 2008 which is devoted to rescuing, fostering and adopting out Tehachapi’s orphaned, abandoned and homeless pets. STOP's short term goal is to develop a network of foster homes in which to keep dogs and cats until their owners can be found, or they can be adopted into permanent homes.  The long term goal of the organization is to build and staff a permanent shelter facility in Tehachapi.

STOP's first fundraiser, "Petals For Pets", will be held February 16, 2008.  Oscar, the STOP spokesdog, invites you to visit his website at OscarGoesCamping.com for details of this unique event.  All proceeds from Petals For Pets will benefit our local homeless animals through the STOP program.  Please join Canine Creek in supporting this fundraiser by purchasing an award-winning rose bush for your sweetie... just in time for Valentine's Day!

Young playful male dog, black and brindle coloring with medium length hair, found on Grove Avenue in Mountain Meadows.  About 45 to 50 lbs, looks to be a young dog, no collar.  Unknown if the dog has a microchip or not.  The dog was found by Cathy at (661) 301-0937 but he may be turned over to Leslie at Canine Canyon Ranch since he is jumping Cathy's fence.  I will update this information if the dog is transferred to Leslie.

OK, so my title is a little bit misleading.  I'm talking about dogs here, not human kids, but I'm hoping to catch some new eyeballs with this post to find a home for two sweet young dogs.  The Tehachapi Humane Society has two neutered male mixed breed Shepherd/Retriever dogs from a litter of 8 puppies born in June 2007 and we really need to find them permanent homes.

Onyx and Socks are happy go lucky teenagers (about 7 months old) and deperately need a place to share their love and to call their own where they have room to play.  They have been in the foster system for about six months, and need families.  The dogs can be adopted separately, but it would be great if they could stay together.  If you can open your heart and home to one or both of the boys, please call the Tehachapi Humane Society today at 823-0699 menu #5 and leave your name and number.

Our New Store Location as of March 1, 2008

After several months of negotiations with three landlords, we finally found the perfect home.  We signed a lease yesterday, and will be preparing to relocate Canine Creek Dog Wash & Boutique within the next 6 weeks.

As of Saturday, March 1, 2008, our new address will be:
538 E. Tehachapi Blvd., Tehachapi CA 93561

Canine Creek's new building is located at the corner of Tehachapi Blvd. and Snyder Ave. across from the old Junior High School, 2 blocks East of the Apple Shed, and just south of the railroad tracks.  In fact, we're so close to the tracks, you'll be able to sit on our front porch and watch the trains go by.  The fastest way to our new store is to take Valley Blvd / Highway 202 east from Tucker Road and turn left on Snyder Avenue, just before you reach the High School.

Why We Love This New Location
Our new free-standing building is recently remodeled inside and out with tan stucco and rock face accents.  At just over 2,900 square feet, it is nearly DOUBLE the size of our present shop.  And, the feature we are most excited about... a HUGE fenced-in back area that will be perfect for training classes, private parties, socializing with friends, and hanging out with your dog!

Important Information - Making the Transition
We will most likely close the 979 Valley store from Wednesday 2/27 thru Friday 2/29 to pack and move.  So, we highly recommend that you stock up on food and supplies, and get your bathing done, by February 26th.  Due to a VERY tight construction schedule, the self serve tubs may not be ready by the March 1st re-opening, but retail will ready that day.  Watch our website for additional move updates.  www.CanineCreek.com

Neutered male dog about 35-40 lbs found near Mountain Drive and Valley Vista in Golden Hills on New Year's Eve.  Tan and white, believed to be a heeler mix.  Blue collar but no tags or microchip.  Housebroken and gets along with other dogs.  If you know who the owner is, please have them call Dan at 823-9312.  Dan can keep the dog for a while, but the dog can jump their 4 foot fence, so he would need a permanent home if his owner is not located.

Hi there. My name is Ben and this is the story of how I went from being a vagabond wandering the streets of Tehachapi to having a new home with a loving couple. What a difference two weeks makes!

There I was wandering along Valley Blvd., minding my own business and looking for my next meal, when someone stopped. It was Mike who worked at Canine Creek Dog Wash. He picked me up and took me to work where I was whisked inside (it sure smells great in there) and treated like a king. Needless to say, I was the guest, so I behaved impeccably. Susie called her friend Leslie at Canine Canyon Ranch Rescue and asked “Is there was room at the inn?” There was, and the rest is history.

I stayed there for almost two weeks while they waited to see if someone would claim me. If they’d just asked me, I could have told them I’d been out wandering for quite some time. I got my dreadlocks cut off and every day the lady brushed me. The Collie Rescue didn’t have room for me so she started looking for a new home. Some people LIKE older gentlemanly dogs, you know.

People answered an email and helped to raise money for my surgery-I have a large cyst on my tail, several smaller cysts, I’m getting neutered (whatever that is), will have all required shots, and if there’s enough money I’ll get a microchip. Dr. Billingsley will be doing my surgery on Monday, January 7th, thanks to everyone who contributed. My foster mom tells me that it will be a lot more comfortable sitting down from now on (I’m not sure what’s up with that?).

My new home will be with a couple who just lost their older male Shepherd a few months ago. Here’s a photo of me with my new Mom, Louise, taken right after Susie at Canine Creek spent almost two hours giving me a bath and brushing me out. Even though they live in a small trailer that moves around, they will be wonderful guardians for the rest of my life, and I will guard them right back. We are going to leave Tehachapi to be campground hosts very soon! That will be fun and I’ll get to make lots of new friends and help them have a great time on their vacations.

Well, that’s about it for now. This next week should be really exciting for me, so I wanted to tell you my story now before things get crazy. Thank you to everyone that helped out with my vet bill and I’ll try and send a postcard soon. And if you’re looking for a dog, don’t forget to check out the rescues first-they changed my life forever!

Love and slobbery kisses,

Gentle Ben the collie

This big furry old dog has been rescued from the streets of Tehachapi and has a new owner ready to love him.  But, before he is officially adopted out, Gentle Ben needs medical care.  Contributions would be greatly appreciated to help pay for his surgery with Dr. Billingsley on January 7th.  If you would like to contribute, checks payable to "Dr. Billingsley", with Gentle Ben in the subject line, can be dropped off at Canine Creek.  Thank you for any assistance you can offer!
