The number for the Mojave Shelter is 824-4464. As some of you know, I have been pushing for a fenced, off-leash dog park to be developed in Tehachapi for quite some time. Well, to be specific, since November 2004 with my first letter to the editor of theTehachapi News. After collecting hundreds of signatures on our Dog Park Petition, and making a pest of myself at parks department meetings over the years, it looks like the dog owners of Tehachapi are finally getting their wish. I spoke with Gary Opfermann, Manager of TVRPD, last week and he confirmed that the dog park fence will be installed shortly at Meadowbrook. When I asked for a target opening date, Gary told me they were shooting for July 4th, in conjunction with the unveiling of the new bike path that will run along Red Apple Road. My understanding is that TVRPD will be holding a public grand opening or ribbon cutting ceremony when the park is ready. Just giving everyone a heads-up now so you can watch for updates. As soon as I hear something, I'll post it on my TN blog and the Canine Creek website. And, if there aren't any updates forthcoming in the next few weeks, feel free to call my friend Gary and tell him we're waiting! :-) If you could raise money for a charity with very little time and virtually no effort on your part, would you do it? Hopefully, most of you will say YES! Well, if so, here's your opportunity to help a good cause.... Save Tehachapi's Orphaned Pets (STOP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to pet rescue and building a shelter in our community. To help with fundraising efforts, STOP has registered with a search engine called www.GoodSearch.com. Any time you use this site to search the internet, or buy products online from a long list of major vendors, GoodSearch will donate money to the charity of your choice. This donation comes in the form of pennies per click for searches, and a percentage of your online purchases from companies like Amazon, Home Depot, Best Buy, and many others. Then, at the end of the year, GoodSearch sends a donation check to STOP. If you want to use GoodSearch regularly, you can download their toolbar to your computer. It's easy, and only takes a minute. If you don't want to use the downloaded toolbar, you can just go to www.GoodSearch.com any time.
