Downtown Summer Wine Walk -- July 18th from 6pm to 9pm
 
Enjoy an evening downtown and taste your favorite wines and appetizers on Friday, July 18th from 6pm to 9pm, when 26 downtown businesses host the 1st Annual Summer Wine Walk in Historic Downtown Tehachapi.  Musicians will be throughout downtown to entertain you while you stroll with your friends and loved ones.  There will also be a party with a DJ after the event until 11:30pm at no extra charge. 

Wine Walk tickets can be purchased in advance for $20 at Farmer's Market (Thursday evenings in Railroad Park), Apple Shed, LeMarche, Cottage Carpets, Fuller N Fuller, Tehachapi Flower Shop and Canine Creek.  Tickets purchased on the day of the event will be $25, and they will likely sell out, so don't wait to buy your tickets.  For more information, visit the Main Street Tehachapi website at http://www.mainstreettehach....

6/29/08 - Border Collie Mix, female, found in the fenced-in reclaimed water area next to KB Homes.  This dog has been sent to a foster home.  Another dog, probably her sibling, is still running loose there, and people have been trying catch it.  No one knows how long they have been in the fenced area without food or water.  If anyone has info on these dogs, or knows who they belong to, please call 661-300-1467.

6/23/08 - (2) Female Pit Bull Puppies, about 6 to 9 months old, have been picked up by Mojave Animal Control.  One is fawn/red colored and the other brindle.  No collars or microchips.  Call the shelter to claim at 824-4464.

6/23/08 - Female Poodle or Mix puppy, approximately three months old, apricot colored with a long tail, found near Saddleback off Highline.  No collar, no microchip.  The dog has an bad ear infection.  She will be fostered until the owner is located.  If this is your dog, please call Shellie at (661) 319-8069.

6/15/08 - Brown puppy, female, with white on the chest found 6/15/08 in Golden Hills at Briarwood Street.  Looks to be a hound or pit mix puppy about 5 months old.  She has short hair, with white on all four paws, a long tail, floppy ears, and is very sweet. 6/15/08 - Male Rottweiler/Chow mix, neutered and microchipped through Tehachapi Vet Hospital. Number not known.  The dog's name is Zeus, he has a sever under bite, and is wearing a choke chain. Lost at Ave "D" and Green Street.  Please call 823-0247 if found.

6/15/08 - Female Schnauzer, spayed, white and silver, lost on June 10th. She is 9 yrs old and her name is Dutchess.  She was lost around Delaware Drive and Cedar Canyon by the Woodward Center in Stallion Springs.  Dutchess he has health issues and needs a special diet. 6/14/08 - Male Siberian Husky with blue eyes, lost on June 13th in Ashe Village.  The dog's name is Bosco, and he is very friendly.  Unfortunately, no collar/tags. Microchip unknown.  If found, please call (661) 319-7393.

6/13/08 - (2) Boxers: White Male & Brown/White Female lost together in East Golden Hills on June 12th.  Champ & Ruca are wearing brown leather collars with ID tags, but they are not microchipped.  The male is neutered, the female is not spayed.  If found, please call 661-823-8988.  REWARD!

6/13/08 - Male white Great Pyrenees found in Bear Valley Springs.  Young dog, probably under 1 year old.  No collar or tags.  Currently being held in the playground at the Whiting Center, but they cannot keep him.  The BVS police department has been notified.  We are trying to get the dog to Canine Creek for a microchip scan.  If you know who the dog belongs to, please call Pat at (661) 428-0559 or Canine Creek at 822-0307 and ask for me or Shellie for an update on the dog's whereabouts.

6/12/08 - Female German Shepherd named Sadie lost (or possibly stolen) from Tehachapi Auto Glass on Wednesday, 6/11.  Black and tan, 6 months old.  The dog is wearing a collar with a heart shaped ID tag.  The dog is not microchipped.  The family is very concerned about their dog.  Please call 661-972-6411 or 661-972-4323 or 661-822-4500 if you've seen Sadie.  REWARD!

6/8/08 - Male Queensland Heeler Mix, gray with white and black spots.  No collar.  Has good manners and appears to be about 1 year old.  Found on Country Club Dr. and Valley Vista in Golden Hills.  Currently being cared for by Dell.  Please call 822-6121 to claim.

6/8/08 - Small Black & White Female Dog found wandering around Curry in town. She has white on her chest and a short tail. Breed not known. Estimated to be about a year old. Very friendly and plays well with children. Sits on command and fetches.  People in the area are feeding her, but their yards aren't set up to keep a dog so she is still running at large. 6/7/08 - Female Border Collie/Lab Mix found on Hayes and J Street in town.  No collar but is wearing a ring of light up bracelets in different colors.  Very sweet and between 6 months to one year old. The dog is in foster care with Jessica. Call 972-3672 to claim.

6/6/08 - Mastiff found in Sand Canyon, as reported to Canine Creek by animal control.  Please call 742-8853 to claim this dog.  Kern County Animal Control will pick up the dog and taking it to the pound on Monday if the owner cannot be located by that time!

As some of you know, I have been pushing for a fenced, off-leash dog park to be developed in Tehachapi for quite some time.  Well, to be specific, since November 2004 with my first letter to the editor of theTehachapi News.  After collecting hundreds of signatures on our Dog Park Petition, and making a pest of myself at parks department meetings over the years, it looks like the dog owners of Tehachapi are finally getting their wish. 

I spoke with Gary Opfermann, Manager of TVRPD, last week and he confirmed that the dog park fence will be installed shortly at Meadowbrook.  When I asked for a target opening date, Gary told me they were shooting for July 4th, in conjunction with the unveiling of the new bike path that will run along Red Apple Road. 

My understanding is that TVRPD will be holding a public grand opening or ribbon cutting ceremony when the park is ready.  Just giving everyone a heads-up now so you can watch for updates.  As soon as I hear something, I'll post it on my TN blog and the Canine Creek website.  And, if there aren't any updates forthcoming in the next few weeks, feel free to call my friend Gary and tell him we're waiting!  :-)
