The Knights of Columbus, in cooperation with the Kern County Fire Department, are collecting canned goods and toys for their annual Christmas Baskets for Needy Families program.

Fire Engineer Michael Veiga, a co-chairman for the Knight’s program, said that monetary or food donations may be made at any one of three local fire stations. Toys do not need to be wrapped and food items may be placed in grocery bags or boxes.

The Knights delivered food baskets to 138 needy families last year. Veiga said that donations are already pouring in and this may prove to be a banner year for the project.

Checks should be made payable to the Knights of Columbus Christmas Basket Fund, and can be mailed to P.O. Box 204, Tehachapi CA. 93581.

If you or your family are in need of food for Christmas dinner, please register at St. Malachy’s office or Fire Station 12 at 800 S. Curry St.

In addition to Station 12, donated items may be dropped at Station 16, 28946 Bear Valley Rd., Bear Valley Springs, or Station 18, 28381 Braeburn Pl., Stallion Springs.

Local charity's with little to no overhead is the way to go. The KOC is a good one to give to.They will bring smiles to a lot of faces come Christmas.

I cleaned out my Mom's cubbord and there is alot of canned food that my Family will not eat so I will box it and give it to the fire dept. What a great idea.
