countygirl - > Wake up Tehachapi !! -> 39 DAYS.......
39 DAYS.......

In just a little over a month Tehachapi Police are supposed to be taking over KCSO and KCFD is supposed to take over Tehachapi Fire.

Has anyone heard anything about this?  Was Tehachapi Police able to fill all the positions needed for this take over? I haven't even seen a cruiser around town yet. Are they done?

Was a contract between the city and KCFD ever hammered out? Was it ever decided what they are going to do with the SAFER grants?

I haven't heard a gosh dang thing and quite frankly I'm getting  a little nervous.

*In other news I'm glad Station 16(Bear Valley) and Station18( Stallion Springs) are now fully staffed.

If you had attended the last City Council meeting on Monday, May 21, 2007 you would have heard and SEEN the answers to your questions as Chief Kermode made a lengthy presentation and introduced our newly hired Police Persons. They received a standing ovation.

Why thank you Jim!  I was unaware that was on the agenda. However I wouldn't have been able to attend anyway.  As a mother of 3 small children and a husband that works 48 hr shifts that happens at times. I'm sure you understand! :) Still  I'm really glad to hear it!

Now we still have the question of the contract between Tehachapi City and KCFD. Have any answers for that one?

Thanks Aero! :)

Lighten up a bit, Aero. I wasn't trying to "jump" on anyone. Just making a point. The TN usually posts the items of the Council Agenda (a job the CITY refuses to do). This time their post was bereft of any information so it was anyone's guess.

I agree that the timing of the Council meetings is bad. I have to drop a  lot of my own personal life activities to try and make it. I suggested several times that it be changed to a Saturday morning or afternoon so the Mom's preparing dinner and the workers chugging north on Highway 14 and 58 at that very hour could make the meetings. But, as I was informed by Deborah Hand, that was "Not convenient for her." UGH! She could care bloody less. For that matter, the fewer citizens who attend, the fewer there will be to hold them accountable for any of their actionable activities. What's to be done about that? Can you spell R-E-P-L-A-C-E-M-E-N-T?

As far as a contract between the City and KCFD, it is being hammered out. There are still some things that need to be figured out. One thing that looks pretty scarry- The City will have to decide if they want to add an additional man or two (If the money is there). During all of the meetings, money was no object- so if they come back and decide it is an object now- we will have to raise hell (which I hope it doesn't come to, I hope the council will have the concerns of it's citizens as it's highest priority).

Doesnotgetit- I personally have thought this was going to be an issue since day one, but  I decided to wait it out and see what happens before jumping to any conclusions.

I sat in when the study was discussed at the city council meeting and it seemed like all of the board members agreed that they wanted at least one additional firefighter up here at all times and that anything less was unacceptable. I have to admit I'm VERY curious what the end result will be.  I can't imagine them walking away leaving things as is(with no additional staffing) after the stink some of them made about "giving up" THEIR fire dept.

My guess is, we're gonna have to raise hell.

The City of Tehachapi spent a lot of tax dollars, time and energy on a fire study. Before the study the city said they had millions to spend on a city fire department. The study said that the city needed to disband its fire department and contract with the county. It also said that the city should pay to upgrade fire service by adding a 4th firefighter at the county fire station or even pay to staff a 2nd fire engine. Now I have been told that our city leaders are not going to follow the study recommendations. They are now saying they don't have the money to add additional firefighters in Tehachapi. What happened to the millions? It looks to me that Tehachapi City is taking their ball and going home. They didn't like the way the study went so they will let fire service in Tehachapi City go down.  We the tax payers of Tehachapi payed for that study and we want the recommendations followed!

Well, lets see how much blogging will actually get you this time. You got what you wanted with the TFD now live with the results.

We didn't get what we wanted! We wanted the city to go back to a paid call fire department. You know the way it was! It worked and everyone got more for less.

If you mean sticking with KCFD as our first responders you are correct, BUT "we" also wanted TFD to go back to paid call as Shane stated.  We'd also be OK, with the results if they do indeed work it out so we get additional staffing at 12.

We wanted an unbiased study and we wanted them to follow what the study recommended. So far we don't know if we've gotten what we wanted because we don't know if the city is going to pay to add an additional person(s) to 12 like the study recommended.

I can't wait to see you people "raise hell" when you lose a department and the city refuses to pay for additional staffing at station 12. It's not going to happen.

Your right anonymous it's not going to happen, if we don't make it happen. When the City refuses to pay for additional staffing, it will not hurt me alone. It will hurt all of us Tehachapi residents. I can't wait to hear their excuses for not doing what the study recommended. You would think the City would want to do the right thing.

I would LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE to know how you are so sure of this info. Please, do tell, do you know something we don't? wink, wink

I think we have to have a little faith in our city leaders. I hope that they will follow the recommendations of the study and even step it up a little as they said they are concerned with public safety and the protection of the people and property owners within the city. Hopefully the contract will be settled and the best possible scenario will happen- More protection for less dollars.

I'm with mkings. Hey speaking of , weren't we still supposed to have public forums. I swear that we were promised public forums( part 2 of part 1 of the study)  to get feedback from the public on what they wanted to see happen here.
