Isn't it romantic...
With Valentine's Day just around the corner, we at the News are wondering about the idea of romance in the 21st century.

What songs and movies bring out the romantic in you?  Are there couples on TV shows you watch who never seem to run out of romantic gestures?

If you were to rent the perfect romantic movie, followed by dancing to the perfect song, what would they be?

The most romantic movie ever made, in my opinion, is Somewhere In Time with Jane Seymour and Christopher Reeve. I was a senior in high school when it came out on cable, and I watched it eighty-seven times before I finally quit counting. I can still recite the dialogue, and the music gets to me to this day.

I'll try and get us back on the right track.

Movies: I'm a huge fan of  While you were Sleeping, The Fisher King, Last of the Mochcans and Chocolat.

Music is a little tougher, since there's so much great stuff out there. I'll have to think on that a little harder.

For TV couples, I'll start with Niles and Daphne on Fraiser. One of my all-time favorites!

The Titanic is a great movie. The lady cheats on her man. Then the guy that was involved in cheating dies. That's what I call a happy ending!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love is for suckers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only thing that could have made it any better would have been that the lady died also!!!!!!!!!!!!   Happy Valentines day to all.

My movie choice would probally be Titanic. It is not the most romantic movie but it is my favorite love story. And the song i would dance to would be my wedding song Take my breath away by Berlin. But i would much rather have the room filled with soft music and just lay there with my husband and enjoy the peace and queit!!! Which is rare in this house...lol

May your gentleman friend be blessed and he has a speedy recovery. And Thank goodness he had you to call sparks and that he could trust in knowing you would take care of her. You are a great person for helping him out in his time of need.

Wow Deb! What a story. I hope your friend is okay. That is true romance. I love it when I see the older couples together and they hold hands, and open doors for each other. It's so sweet.

Romantic Movies:   Sweet November,  Romeo and Juliet,  As Good as it Gets,  and Sleepless in Seattle and If these Walls could Talk II.  I'm sure I am missing a few here.

Romantic Music.  hmmm, I like a little of all music,  I guess Classic Jazz, folk and the blues.   Although songs like Truly Madly Deeply by Garden Savage isn't bad either.

However, on a date If we had to watch a movie I would rent Piano Player because it's boring and thus the focus would be on us instead of the movie. (I have yet to make it through this entire movie).  After the movie, it's most likely I would play Enya.  Mmmmm, Slow dancing and a splash of lavender..  If my date is shy, a bottle of Toasted Head and a game of strip poker may be in order.   lol

Truthfully romance for me is not a movie, a song, candy or a box of flowers.  It's the actions of people who are passionate and loving that I find most romantic.     Last night an old man and a good buddy of mine called me at 2 am, he said "Debi I'm having a heart attack, the ambulance is here, but I can't leave my wife alone so I am not willing to go to the hospital".   I told him I would be right over to watch his blind wife while he was in the hospital.    He would not get into the ambulance until I arrived.  He is in the Tehachapi Hospital right now, more concerned for his wife then himself.   Actions like his are what I find romantic.

I'm usually a big fan of older movies, but I'd have to say that The Notebook was the best romance movie I have ever seen. I loved it!

As far as music goes. Wow! There are just too many.  My husband and I danced our first dance at our wedding to I Could Not Ask For More by Edwin McCain. I like Amazed by Lonestar, From This Moment On by Shania Twain( lots of good country ones)  Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers, even Your Guardian Angel by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.  I listen to pretty much everything! lol

Now as far as tv couples go I haven't a clue. I'm usually stuck watching cartoons or cops! lol
