Santa's magic
Following a special shopping trip for Toys For Tots, my 4-year-old daughter surprised me when she asked me a logical question: "Why can't Santa just use his magic to make more toys for the girls and boys who don't have as much as we do?"
I've since thought of various responses that would be far more effective than my initial reaction, but what's been even more surprising than my little one's precociousness are some of the responses shared by some of the adults I've discussed this with. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Wishing you all the magic and joy of the holiday season, Carin Enovijas, Editor

lol...out of the mouths of babes. My six-year old granddaughter asked me if life was real, if we really are alive, or are we a TVshow for someone else? Uh, I told her to ask her mom. posted by

This is kind of off the subject, but I thought about this blog last night driving my kids to see lights at "Christmas in the Park". It was cool, there's a big lake and it's all decorated and stuff. Anyhow, we were driving and my out of the blue says "Mom, I have a question for you?" When he says this, it is always a good one. After he asked me the question I thought "if only he ask is there a Santa Claus." That's when I thought of this blog. He question was, (he's 7 going on 8), "mom, were you married when you had me? Did I have a father when I was born?" I was in fact a single mom. My son knew his father until his death when my son was 4 1/2. I expected questions when I was pregnant with my second son (I was married for that one). But Christmas time!! You never know what they are going to come up with. =) posted by

Santa and all of them are good 2 believe in until you get to a certain age. After a certain age you need 2 be told that they are not real and the child should just deal with it water they they like it or not trust me is better to know the truth instead of being lied 2 all of your life how would you like it if all of you child hood reams(meeting Santa Claus seeing the ester bunny the tooth fairy) taken from i now i hated it and i will never forget how betrayed and lied 2 when i found out that there was and never will be "Santa clause" of any other of those make believe creatures. posted by

Sparks, a few posts up from mine, Colitas mentioned St Nicholas and said that "many adults believe he existed and was made of flesh and bone". I was trying to confirm that he really did exist, not as a belief, but as historical fact. As for flesh and bone, I suppose that if he were "really into fornication" as you say, he must have been made of that too!! No, he isn't the same guy that Thomas Nast made famous. That would be THIS guy...
