Dog

Lastnite ( Jan.5th) arround 6pm someone hit our dog with their car. She was let out about 10 minutes before that. We do live on a busy street with alot of fast cars. She broke off of her chain and must of ran out in the road. When i opened the door she was laying there waiting for me.

I do realize that she was loose and she shouldnt of been. But when you hit a dog or cat or any other animal atleast try to figure out where it came from and let the people know what happened. I wouldnt of been mad at the person it wasnt their fault. I would of liked to atleast known about it.

She is doing good just a little soar and if she is still soar monday i will be taking her to the vet or if she gets any worse sooner.  I just hope that the person who hit her maybe thinks about it and next time atleast tries to find where the animal came from to let the people know.

I hope your dog feels better. I just hate that. My brothers dog was hit about 4 years ago when she was a pup out on Old Town road. My brother saw it happened but the driver just drove off and he was to worried about the dog to get any info. It was also his fault the dog escaped. She lived but her right rear leg is paralized so she walks kind of funny. Oh and it was about $3,000 dollars for her surgery. My brother was kida worried about paying the two hundred for the German Shepherd puppy and in turn he now has the $3,200 dog. I guess that is what you do when they become part of the family. Well I hope your dog is okay and that if you have to take her to the vet you are not stuck with a big vet bill. Oh and my sister had her phone off all day she was in Bakersfield and now is at a hockey game so it was a good day to forget to call her. She is looking forward to your call though so I would try her tomorrow or this week when you get a chance. The cell number is your best bet.

Eeks... I'm really sorry to hear about your dog being hit and glad that he seems to be okay. There are so many insensitive people in this world. It amazes me how many people will hit an animal right in front of the owner and still not even stop. Personally I wouldn't be able to live with myself. Of course, I always make a habit of stopping to make sure a dog doesn't get hit, even if it means I have to put him in my car until I figure out where he lives.

Does your dog have an i.d tag on? If not, I would really recommend that you get one. It will make it so much easier should any unfortunate accident happen in the future, or even if your dog were to get lose and someone found him taking a jog.

I hope your doggy turns out to just have some minor bruises:)

Our dog is doing much better now, she is almost back to "normal". We took her to the emergency vet yesterday and they did some tests and we still do not know what is wrong. It cost us over $200 for an office visit and some blood work. The vet was wanting to do some x-rays but we had to decline that due to the cost ($100 each x 5) and because we had a family emergency. But today she seems to be doing good and acting a little more like herself.  And we are going to take her to her regular vet this afternoon and hope that it is a little cheaper!!!

oh and yes she has a tag on her with all the information incase she does become lost or gets hit by a car.

According to state law, the driver is required to stop whenever property damage may have occurred.  A dog is considered property (until the misguided animal-rights people get the wording changed).  As property, dogs have certain protections under the law.  Hitting a dog and leaving the scene is the same as any hit-and-run.  The drivers who do not stop and attempt to find the owner of the dog are no different that drivers who hit your car and flee the scene (though I think they have scum for morals).  If anyone sees a driver flee such a scene I hope you take down as much information as possible and give it to the sheriff.

I know if i was to ever hit an animal i would make every attempt to find where it belongs and if i couldn't it would end up coming home with me. I couldn't just leave the animal there and not do anything about it. Those that would do that probally don't have a conscious or just don't care about anyone but themselves. And if they could do it to a dog imagine what they would do if it was human..

I do realize my dog should not have been loose and in the road. I had no clue she was loose and if i would of known i would of gotten her. But whoever hit her with their car should of stopped to see if she was ok and try to find where she came from. There are only 2 houses on the road i live on so they had a good chance of finding me. I would not of expected them to pay the vet bills just by letting me know what happened to her would of been good enough for me. It makes me even more angry that the person did not even try to inform the owner.

But she is doing really good now. She is drinking again and eating a little bit. And getting back to normal slowly...

TK, You are mostly wrong on this one. A driver is required to stop, by law, whenever there is property damage, however, hitting an animal, wild or pet is not, by law, property damage when the only damage is to the animal.  If however there is damage to the vehicle, he should stop and attempt to ascertain the identy of the animals owner, as said owner is legally responsible for the damage to the vehicle.  That is because we have leash laws and the owner is responsible for securing the animal. If the animal is loose and on the roadway, the owner is fully responsible, regardless of the circumstances.
