Water
I live in a rental house in Tehachapi and we are on a water well. Our entire home is electric 100% of it. Our Electric bills are OUTRAGEOUS!!!! They run from $450 to $650 a month in the winter time. The owner's of the home next door actually own the well but we pay the electric for it. The well is used by our home and the home next door. My question is should we force the owner next door to contribute some money to the high electric bill because they  use the water also? And also do you think by having a cesspool that it would danger the water quality of the well?

eeks - Good for you!!!   Have you spoke to Edison about a payment plan?  I do know that some companies if you get on a plan and pay at least some each month they don't turn off your power.  Something to check into.

We moved into another home and the electric bill was only $35!!! I about fell over.. The gas was only $90 so much better now!! my last electric bill from the house we just moved out of for ONE MONTH was $832!!! For 3 months of electric i owe edison over $2,000!! It is going to take me forever to get them paid off and the owner of the home doesnt care the bill is not in his name..

And if anyone out there is looking for a rental home please be careful and ask if the house is all electric or if it has gas... And i think you can call edison and ask them what the bills have been running for that home.

I called on one of them and the house is in Ash track. Which is fine for me it has cleaned up but the house was pink with white dots all over it. I think the woman said he is asking $800 a month. Then they had another one that is in town and it looked good. And they are asking $850 a month. I think we will look into it some more with the second one.

Yea, there are at least 5 that are $1000 or less. Not sure about deposits though.

I did look and there was one that i called and left a message for... There is bound to be something out there that is reasonable........Anything is better than this house with all the problems we have had...

Oh I would love to have a $100 electric bill....lol This house is just miserable to say the least... We have been here a year and it has been nothing but a headache for us.. We owe the electric company ALOT of money and they are always going to shut us off.. We have never been able to keep it up... Then trying to get the rental company to fix this or that is like pulling teeth!! They did fix our bathroom but all the trash and debree is sitting in our backyard and some in the front. It has been a couple months now. I am seriously going to look for another place. Does anyone know of a house for rent that is resonable? Under $1,000 a month?? Also if the owner can work with the deposit...

I know this is kind of extreme, but I would move!!! I don't know what you are paying now or how long you are committed to your lease, but if I was paying that much and there was nothing that could be done about it I'd move. Just think of what that money could help you with OR in the very least you could have a bigger house!

Electric seems to be getting more expensive. I live in a two bedroom apt. and my electric bill was almost $100 this month!!!

The electric company cannot do anything because there is no meter for the water on the neighbors house. So there is no way to determine what exactly they are using and what we are using... That is the sad part... And we are not concidered city we are county... And the cesspool is in the back part of the property and the water in it is from our washing machine and who knows what else.??? We just need to move out of here is what it comes down to we just cannot afford to do it right now......I just feel the neighbors could help out a little with the cost considering they use the water also...

I have a well and I heat my house with propane.   I pay about $250.00 a month for propane and only about $60.00 a month in electricity in the winter time.   I don't think the electric water pump costs me more than $25.00 a month and I use a lot of water for my yard.   I don't know for sure how much of your bill your neighbors owe you, perhaps the electric company can help you there.    As for the cesspool or septic tank... I believe it must be at least 100 feet from your well.   Call the City they would know more about this.   I hope this helps.

Ask your Landlord if there is a written agreement about the use of the water well and who pays what. My heart goes out to you in this situation. Good luck!
