BULLIES IN THE WORK PLACE

Bullies in the work place. We have all encountered someone in our lives who is a Bully. I was watching a show this morning on Bullies and it gave tips on how to deal with one of these creatures. What I do know is this-DOCUMENT THE BULLYING! I have a cousin who has been bullied at work and has not had a reprieve from the two bullies for years. She frustrates me because she is so beaten down she wont fight back. She went to HR but I am sure hadn't written all the facts down. By documenting you have proof by dates, time, witnesses etc.

I have been treated in a dismissive way at one time and that is a form of bullying. I wound up being promoted to supervisor of these mean ladies and that was sweet enough revenge for me. When you stand up to the bully they usually back down. Try it in a civil manner and you will be surprised at how effective it can be.

No one should ever have to tolerate a Bully.

Now, if we could just have a nice, polite way to get rid of the sleezy guys/gals that can't take a hint...

Sociopathic bullying is troublesome in that the sociopath can't feel remorse or guilt. They are the worst. Too bad for you if you are dealing with one of these. They are scary.

I have a bully at work!  She is so mean...constantley setting me up to fail.  Here's the funny thing...my supervisor knows about it and she has been reprimanded but since we are part of a union, there are many many steps that have to be taken before she gets fired.  I am the 4th person in the position I am in because everyone else has quit!  I know that a bully gets the power from the people that they bully but its hard not to take all that she does and just ignore it.

I would still document all that has transpired. Especially with your complaints to the supervisor. How frustrating! Maybe you could talk to her and ask her if there is something that you might have done and suggest you want to rectify it (even if you don't mean it). Sometimes flattery if done right will help. It sounds like she has an inferiority complex. Sometimes feeding their ego is the only way to get it to stop. You pay Union Dues so what are they doing for you? Don't let them get away with doing nothing. Just keep plugging away step after tedious step.

Believe me I know the reality is that sometimes finding a better job is the only way.

Hi California, I know the frustration that you're going through.  Harrassment in the work place is much more common than

you think!  The supervisor has obviously decided that the issue should be ignored instead of taking action.

Many employees don't want to "rock the boat", but you have rights and you don't deserve to work in that kind of environment.

If I was in your situation(and I have been in a similar one) I would deal with "the big boss" and file a formal complaint.

Document everything that is happening like Gill suggested.  Then, file a formal complaint in writing and make sure you

keep a copy for yourself.  It's against the law for your employer to ignore a "formal complaint".  They know that this

person has been causing problems,  this is nothing new to them...so  they are avoiding what they should've

done all along, and that is to fire this trouble maker.    Stand your ground and don't let this person intimidate you.

I hope everything works out well for you.

She is the Union representitive at our site...she knows what she can get away with and how to do it!  Its just a bad work enviornment.  Someone else that she was bullying confronted her and my coworker got a formal complaint filed against her alledging she treatened the bully...LOL  All I can do is laugh or else I would cry all the time.

That is so sad! I guess you have to laugh. The blubber has gone to her head.
