Ghost Towns

My hubby & I went on a day trip to check out Randsburg & Red Mountain this last Saturday. First stop was the family land.

The 3 original houses of prostitution in Red Mountain were bought by my Grandfather Willie Gillard back in the 60's. My dad inherited them and for a while my sister lived in one of them. I have fond memories of weekends scrounging with my siblings for Tortoise's, horney toads, artifacts & rocks. We would hike all the way around the Red Mountain and find all sorts of stuff. There was some sort of military fence on the back side of the mountain.

The "shacks" as we called them burned down but I still wanted to grab some wood, tiles and whatever was left  for whatever reason  I have yet to figure out. I almost stepped on a sidewinder that my Hubby thought was a rubber snake I had put there to trick him. It was beautiful and we thought it was dead so we went right up to it and took pictures. It vanished when we stepped away. CLOSE CALL.

Randsburg was the next stop. Olga-aged 96 who still runs The Joint was sitting at her stool and we talked a bit about Tom & Faith the two infamous past owners of the Silver Dollar in Red Mountain. All I can say about them is ex stripper and exhibitionist!

Hamburgers and excellent fries across the way at the White Horse and Ice cream at The General Store were on my list of to-do's. Antiquing and people watching are all good past times.

Check it out for a different kind of day trip and have a cold one at Olga's Joint!

Good story. Do you have a picture of "the joint" you can post?

Gill to upload pictures to this blog.... Go to Post Something slide down to Edit Content then click then click Edit next to your Ghost Town blog, then go down the page to where it says Add Photos, or other Media and click on Browse... look for you picture you want to upload on your computer and click Upload (wait for your picture to upload)  You can add as many pictures as you want this way.....then click Post Blog.

Thanks Sparks! I have tried to post pic but could never figure out how to do it!  I should of asked Gube--he is DA KING of posting as we all know!

Now, how do you get pictures in the comment area?

Awsmom...  that is a little more complicated... if you are just taking them off the web like Gube does it's easy.    Go to the site where the picture is...right click it..slide down to Properties and then Copy the URL.   Then go to your comment and click on the little Insert/Edit Image icon that looks like a picture of a mountain range and the sun (yellow)...   it's an icon above your comment box and paste the URL you just copied where it says URL

NOW, in order to use the Insert/Edit Image Icon for your personal pictures, you first have to upload the picture to the internet, I have a server of my own and upload all my pic online.  BUT, you can upload your pics via the instruction on my other comment to Gill, then on this site go to Post Something, slide down and click on your Media then click on the picture you want to copy the URL fit will pop up to were you can copy the url... then follow the instructions above.

I know it sound complicated...when you do it a few times.. it becomes easier.
