Thought for the day
Sometimes when I am driving and I get delayed or have to take another route I think to myself that maybe if I didn't forget my meds and had to turn around and get them or that darned car ahead of me is in slow mode, that the delay is really saving my life or changing it in a way I can't  for see.
The other day, when I thought that someone had stolen my wallet and I had to go back home (sitting on the table) to find it, it got me thinking about the split second that can change a life. The decision to pass that car or patiently wait.  Should I do this or that today. Is that unsafe?  Should I buy a lottery ticket?
Being in the right place at the right time or the reverse can make you stop and think- Did some higher power have a hand in this? Why me? If only, what If.............
All I really know is that life is fragile and I need to remind myself of these thoughts when I am being impatient and about to take a risk. It makes me use a little more caution and common sense and possibly that I am really changing or saving my life because of something within my control. Or not.

Very well said Gillfish!  Yes, it simply doesn't do anyone any good to rush around like a chicken with their head cut off, rushing past other cars or other people.  In the grand scheme of things, it just doesn't matter.  Life is fragile and can change in an instant, and it's important to keep things in perspective.  Thanks for the reminder!

I'm sure the mother of the little girl who stopped to tie her shoe before being run down by a hit-and-run driver this weekend will have a bit different take on questioning the "Why?" of seemingly random acts.  We're all so connected in ways we can't even imagine and yes, life is fragile and we should definitely slow down and use our intellect and our instincts rather than allowing the fast-paced work-a-day world turn us into creatures who react without some forethought. Thank you gilfish for making me think - and feel a little stronger and a little deeper today.

My son just lost a wonderful friend to an overdose. 19 years old. His parents didn't want him abusing the drugs for pain that the Dr. wanted to prescribe so they agreed that a morphine patch was a great solution. He opened the patch and somehow ingested the whole patch. His parents also must deal with a stupid decision made by a much loved only son and also their decision to go with the patch. Through all the losses I have had to accept,  I have learned some terrible lessons, and also some truths that you just can't understand until you lose someone you love. Remember to say I love you, give hugs and kisses and don't ever blame yourself when you lose someone you love. It is out of your control.
