So what are your plans for Mothers Day? I plan on doing absolutely nothing. Read, take the dogs for a walk and just basically laze around. My mom is gone so I will also try not to feel down on Mothers Day.
Lessons From GeeseInteresting facts about geese perhaps you could use in daily living (Print this for future reference) FACTS & LESSONS DESCRIPTION Fact 1 • Did you know that as each goose flaps its wings when it flies, it creates an "uplift" for the birds that follow. By flying in a "V" formation, the whole flock adds 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew alone! Lesson 1 • People who share a common direction, purpose and sense of community can get where they are going quicker and easier because they are traveling on the thrust of one another. Fact 2 • When a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of flying alone. It quickly moves back into formation to take advantage of the bird immediately in front of it. Lesson 2 • If we have as much sense as a goose we stay in formation with those headed where we want to go. We are willing to accept their help and give out help to others. Fact 3 • When a lead goose tires, it rotates back into the formation and another goose flies to the point position. Lesson 3 • It pays to take turns doing the hard tasks and sharing leadership. As with geese, people are interdependent on each other's skills, capabilities and unique arrangements of gifts, ideas, talents and resources. Fact 4 • The geese flying in formation honk to encourage those up front to keep up their speed. Lesson 4 • We need to make sure our "honking" is encouraging. In groups where there is encouragement, production is much greater. The power of encouragement (to stand by one's heart or core values and encourage the heart and core of others) is the quality of "honking" we generally seek. Fact 5 • When a goose gets sick, wounded or shot down, two geese drop out of formation and follow it down to help and protect it. They stay with it until it dies or is able to fly again. Then, they launch out with another formation or catch up with the flock. Lesson 5 • If we have as much sense as geese, we will stand by each other in difficult times as well as when we are strong.
Sometimes when I am driving and I get delayed or have to take another route I think to myself that maybe if I didn't forget my meds and had to turn around and get them or that darned car ahead of me is in slow mode, that the delay is really saving my life or changing it in a way I can't for see.
The other day, when I thought that someone had stolen my wallet and I had to go back home (sitting on the table) to find it, it got me thinking about the split second that can change a life. The decision to pass that car or patiently wait. Should I do this or that today. Is that unsafe? Should I buy a lottery ticket? Being in the right place at the right time or the reverse can make you stop and think- Did some higher power have a hand in this? Why me? If only, what If............. All I really know is that life is fragile and I need to remind myself of these thoughts when I am being impatient and about to take a risk. It makes me use a little more caution and common sense and possibly that I am really changing or saving my life because of something within my control. Or not. |
