Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907. "In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people." posted by

Can you see the parallels... I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with seed. Within a week, we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food. But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue. Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tiles, the chairs, the table...everywhere. Then some of the birds turned mean. They would dive-bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket. And other birds were boisterous and loud. They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food. After a while, I couldn't even sit on my own back porch anymore. I took down the bird feeder and, in three days, the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio. Soon, the back yard was like it used to be...quiet, serene and no one demanding their rights to a free meal. Now let's see...our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, free education and allows anyone born here to be an automatic citizen. Then the illegals came by the tens of thousands. Suddenly our taxes went up to pay for free services; small apartments are housing 5 families; you have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor; you child's 2nd grade class is behind other schools because over half the class doesn't speak English; Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box; I have to press "one" to hear my bank talk to me in English, and people waving flags other than "Old Glory" are squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and free liberties.Maybe it's time for the government to take down the bird feeder! posted by

Open-border conservatives love to tout the myth of the redemptive Hispanic, whose strong family values will allegedly return America to its traditional roots. Don't buy it: No ethnic group in the U.S. is producing out-of-wedlock children at a higher rate than Hispanics. posted by

All too many of the people who stand in the way of tough policies against illegal immigration either ignore or do not understand the connection to public safety, security, and the well-being of local communities.

Current immigration policy allows about 1 million entrants per year compared to a baseline of about 200,000 per year in 1970. The latter was near replacement level, meaning that about 200,000 people leave America permanently each year. posted by

gube, I went through many of your posts here and agree with the majority of them. However.... The one about figure printing the legal aliens to use for verifying legal status goes a little to far. The reason I say this is because of two reasons. First is that if they are coming here legally than they should be protected by our laws just has they are to you and me. By making them have to be finger printed that seems to be border line un-Constitutional to me. The reason I feel it is that way is because you are creating a law that give those of us born in the US more civil rights than to those that are legally here. The second reason is because it is just another step to the government tracking all citizens of the country regardless of status. What would be next, inserting a GPS tracking devise in every baby that is born so that the government can track every step the person makes in their life under the fear of losing and child or so that the police can easily identify US citizens and legal aliens form those the are illegal? Don't think for a minute it can happen because through out history government have used fear to pass laws that were made to "protect" the people of the country. Just look at what Hitler did by forcing the Jews to be tattooed. Did he stop there? posted by

It seems to me that Hillary Clinton is just a very annoying, abrasive person. Male or female. What about the Whitewater scandal? She is just as corrupt as any of them. And just to be frank, if my husband was caught with this Monica Lewinski person....I was disappointed that Hillary didn't do a Lorena Bobbit thing on her husband, the leader of our nation. How funny would it be for Bill Clintons penis to be cut off by a steak knife, and have that nasty thing thrown out the window for the police dogs to find in the dirt in a field. She would be much better served by being a nice person, instead of acting like a bossy woman who can't even control her husband.......God help us all if she becomes President of our precious America. God help us all, she can't even keep her husband happy, forgives all of his very public transgressions. The fact that she can pretend that any of that never happened......what else is she going to forgive, for America, because it's too ugly and hurtful for her to deal with. Bad choice. I have to say, I may be old, but If my husband, God rest his soul is lucky that I never caught him fornicating. I secretly cheered Lorena Bobbit...just for the fact that she had the guts to cut that G***** thing off and throw it in the dirt!!!!!!!! For a dog to find and fetcth in his MOUTH.....I may be old, but I can't help but laugh about it. Stupid Man. He's lucky that he had a young wife. If it was me, I'd have tossed it right down the garbage disposal. No re attachment to be found. She was stupid |
